This film can be found on the web variously as Palermo 1908 and Palermo Illustrata (a different Italian film also of 1908) but the 1914 date is right (it was released in France in February 1915).

After a severe storm in the Alps a party of guides discovers a deserted infant lying in the snow. They carry the child to a peasant woman who agrees to bring it up with her own little son. The only clue to the baby's identity is a gold locket engraved with a regal monogram, and it is not until twenty years later that the truth is discovered.
The fishing boat S. S. Langevaag sets out to the rich fishing grounds outside Aalesund on the West coast of Norway. The nets are set and pulled with a catch of about 250 000 Atlantic herrings. Everything is done by hand and very demanding. The herrings are shaken from the nets and taken ashore in baskets. Most are salted in barrels, while some are packaged in crates with ice. At the end of the film, we can see a panoramic view of Aalesund and its surroundings from the mountains above the city.

Through animated maps, this film shows the different steps involved in the Battle of Haelen. Haelen was a cavalry battle on the Western Front at the beginning of World War I, taking place on August 12, 1914 between German and Belgian forces. Although a Belgian victory, it was of little strategic importance since the German troups captured most of Belgium over the next few months. What is more, the battle demonstrated the irrelevancy of mounted cavalry charges in modern warfare. Besides a few shots of members of the cavalry, there are no images of Haelen and environs.
