Drie oktoberfeesten te Leiden

Overview

A lively account of the annual Three October Festivals, featuring a traditional tribute by song at the statue of Mayor Van der Werff, the distribution of herring and bread, and the festive parades. Particularly noteworthy are the firing of the so-called Japanese daytime fireworks and the ascent of a hot air balloon. During the latter, 12-year-old Evert Magnier remained hanging from a rope. He was later brought down by emergency landing in a meadow. The balloon pilot was W. van Pottum.
