Sir Longfellow and Alejandro Fragoso arrive in Consolación de Chiriguay, a mirage-filled town in the Calavera Desert, in search of Alejandro's sister. They encounter Captain Olvido, a fearsome yet peculiar man, and a rivalry emerges between Alejandro and the Captain over the love of Claramanta Suárez de Figueroa Sarmiento and the pursuit of a hidden treasure.
