The director of the theater in Győr, a city in Hungary, dies unexpectedly in the middle of the season. Boday Balázs, a once highly popular actor, is temporarily placed in his position. Boday arrives in the city with two objectives: firstly, to rescue the theater from bankruptcy, and secondly, to meet his never-before-seen daughter born out of wedlock, whom her mother (the city's current mayor) has kept him away from. Balázs quickly gets to know the theater, the ensemble, the staff, and even finds friends. However, he also encounters adversaries who do everything they can to ensure Boday does not receive his permanent appointment.
