The show stars Aaron McCargo, Jr., the winner of the fourth season of the network's reality television series, The Next Food Network Star. The six-episode first season was McCargo's grand prize for winning the reality show. The first episode aired on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m., just one week after the last episode of The Next Food Network Star. McCargo left his job as the executive catering chef of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to work on Big Daddy's House. The show aimed to show cooks, even those with little culinary experience, that making and preparing quality food can be easy, flavorful and enjoyable. When asked to describe the goal of his show, McCargo said, "Fun...bottom line. This is about having fun with your children, your spouse, your neighbors." McCargo, who adopts a friendly, casual demeanor on the screen, said he sought to make viewers feel confident about their kitchen skills. The Food Network billed Big Daddy's House as featuring "simple, fun and mouth-watering recipes that illustrate Aaron's love for big, bold flavors". Two worlds collide when Josh, a wealthy young tech entrepreneur, meets Gabi, a feisty young food blogger, looking to be his personal chef. Gabi is desperate for the job and must prove herself, mostly to Josh's aide, who prefers a famous chef for the job. When Josh enlists Gabi to prepare a romantic meal for him and his girlfriend, the dinner goes awry and Gabi finds herself in a very awkward position. With the help of her best friend Sofia and Josh's housekeeper, Gabi turns a difficult situation into an opportunity for employment and maybe even love. Gabi gets some much needed help and advice from Josh’s assistant and his housekeeper.

Man About the House is a British sitcom created and written by Brian Cooke and Johnnie Mortimer, and starring Paula Wilcox, Sally Thomsett, Richard O'Sullivan, Brian Murphy, and Yootha Joyce. Six series were broadcast on ITV from 15 August 1973 to 7 April 1976. It was considered daring at the time because it featured a man sharing a London flat with two single women. Single roommates Chrissy and Jo search for a third tenant to help pay the rent, they intend on finding another female. But then they encounter Robin Tripp... who's looking for a place to stay. Two spin-offs were produced: George and Mildred (1976–79) and Robin's Nest (1977–81). A film adaptation was released in 1974 and, in 1977, the series was remade for American audiences as Three's Company.
