As Rare As I Am
AS RARE AS I AM is an intimate portrait of Allyx Theus, whose lifelong love of climbing is tested by the biases and barriers women face in the sport. From the moment she first stepped into a climbing gym, Allyx noticed she was treated differently, and early on, she believed skill and strength would earn her respect. But even as she grew stronger and mastered harder routes, a new challenge emerged: reconciling her muscular body with society’s expectations of what a woman “should” look like. The film follows Allyx as she learns to climb for herself, embracing the joy of the sport rather than the approval of others. Now, as Director of her own gym, she works to create the inclusive, supportive community she never had.
