On the evening of a stormy 18 years ago, a young officer was wounded with a sleeping child and a box of gold to the Gong family. He entrusted the child and gold to the Gong family. กรกฎาคม 1976 เมืองถังซาน ประเทศจีน ฟางเติ้ง เด็กหญิงวัย 7 ขวบ ใช้ชีวิตในหน้าร้อนอันเงียงสงบกับพ่อแม่และน้องชายของเธอ โดยที่ไม่เอะใจเลยว่าในอีกไม่กี่ชั่วโมงต่อมา เธอจะสูญเสียผู้เป็นพ่อไปตลอดกาลและผู้เป็นแม่จะต้องตัดสินใจครั้งสำคัญ เป็นการตัดสินใจที่จะหลอกหลอนฟางเติ้งไปตลอด 32 ปี นับจากนี้...เช้าของวันที่ 28 กรกฎาคม ปี 1976 เมืองถังซานในมณฑลเหอเป่ยทางตอนเหนือของประเทศจีน ประสบกับเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวขนาด 7.8 ริกเตอร์ คร่าชีวิตผู้คนไปมากกว่า 250,000 ชีวิต พ่อของฟางเติ้งจากไปในโศกนาฏกรรมครั้งนั้น ส่วนเด็กหญิงและน้องชายติดอยู่ในซากซีเมนต์ ซึ่งผู้เป็นแม่สามารถเลือกช่วยชีวิตลูกของเธอได้เพียงคนเดียว ซึ่งแม่ได้เลือกน้องชาย ไม่มีใครคิดว่าฟางเติ้งจะรอดชีวิต เธอถูกเลี้ยงดูโดยพ่อแม่บุญธรรม และยังฝังใจเรื่องแม่อยู่เสมอ จน 3 ทศวรรษผ่านไป แผ่นดินไหวเกิดขึ้นอีกครั้งที่มณฑลเสฉวน เหตุธรณีพิบัตินี้นำเธอมาพบกับครอบครัวที่จากกันไปเนิ่นนานมันเป็นเวลาที่ฟางเติ้งจะต้องสะสางปมในใจเสียที
