ณ สยามประเทศ ในยุคที่ยังมีสงคราม “มาก” จำต้องทิ้งเมียของเขาที่กำลังท้องแก่ไว้ที่บ้านเพื่อเข้าร่วมศึก ระหว่างสงคราม “มาก” ได้พบและช่วยชีวิตเพื่อนทหารเกณฑ์สี่คนคือ เต๋อ เผือก ชิน และ เอ จนท้ายที่สุดทั้งห้าก็กลายมาเป็นเพื่อนสนิทกัน เมื่อสงครามยุติ “มาก” จึงชวนให้ทั้งสี่ไปเยี่ยมบ้านของเขาที่พระโขนง เมื่อถึงพระโขนง มากแนะนำให้ เต๋อ เผือก ชิน และ เอ รู้จักกับ "นาค" เมียสาวแสนสวยของเขา และยังมี “แดง” ลูกชายวัยแรกเกิดของมากด้วย เต๋อ เผือก ชิน และ เอ ตัดสินใจอยู่ที่พระโขนงสักระยะโดยอาศัยที่บ้านหลังเก่าฝั่งตรงข้ามบ้านมาก ขณะนั้นมีข่าวลือหนาหูในหมู่ชาวบ้านว่า "นาค" เป็นผีตายทั้งกลม!! ทั้งสี่ไม่เชื่อ จึงพยายามพิสูจน์ด้วยวิธีการต่างๆ ต่อมายายเปรียกผู้ปล่อยข่าวลือเกิดจมน้ำตายลอยขึ้นอืดอย่างน่าสยดสยอง ทำให้ เต๋อ เผือก ชิน และ เอ ปักใจเชื่อว่า "นาค" เป็นผีแน่ๆ ทั้งสี่ไม่กล้าบอก “มาก” ตรงๆ เนื่องจากกลัวจะต้องพบจุดจบแบบเดียวกับยายเปรียก แต่เมื่อนึกถึงบุญคุณที่ “มาก” เคยช่วยชีวิต พวกเขาจึงต้องตัดสินใจบอกความจริงให้มากรู้ “เพราะคนกับผีอยู่ร่วมกันไม่ได้”
