Ten women from different generations and social backgrounds recount how they gradually reclaimed their voices and carved out a space for themselves in politics and music—traditionally male-dominated and patriarchal spaces in Peru. Marly Anzualdo, a human rights activist; Sandra Requena, a renowned singer in the underground music scene; Carmela Vildoso, a sociologist and former Minister of Women; Aurora Chirinos, a biologist; Isabel Asto, an Andean music singer; Victoria Villanueva, co-founder of Manuela Ramos; Merian Eyzaguirre, a singer and LGBTQ activist; Marisa Godinez, an illustrator; Lola Marchena, a Creole music singer; and Armandina Quispe, a former leader of the Peruvian Peasant Confederation, open their homes to share life stories that reveal how the personal intertwines with the political. By listening to them, we gain access to the complex experiences of women who, with tender but rebellious gestures, expand the places of enunciation in a country adverse to dissent.
