Franziska, one of Steffen's classmates, is very fond of him and stands up for him; she fights for Steffen's fair treatment. Then the friendship between the two young people is put to the test by the boy's mistrust.

This black and white documentary film reports from the Berlin Zoo, located in the Friedrichsfelde district of the Lichtenberg district, was opened in 1955 and is the largest landscape animal garden in Europe with an area of 160 hectares. With shots worth seeing, you can experience the animals in their enclosures and spacious free running areas. The film gets along completely without commentary and directs the concentrated view to hippos, parrots, camels, red deer, bison, llamas, kangaroos, rhinoceroses; lynxes, birds, leopards, tigers, lions, polar bears and crocodiles.

An ancient fairy tale tells that Athanga created the world with animals and humans. Since the creatures soon began to quarrel with each other, he decided that from then on, everyone would only live for a short time and then die. This brought much suffering upon the people, but the power of laughter remained with them.
Two men sit on the top of a roof, playing the tuba. They continually call out absurd messages making fun of official solutions and of their own slogans. The residents feel disturbed by the tuba's sound and start to attack the musicians, while they themselves keep on playing and shouting louder and louder. Finally the house is blasted and the tubas are destroyed.
Indian boys play in front of a tent camp on the prairie. They imitate the buffalo dance of the hunters. One boy doesn't like it. He wants to take part in the hunt, but is still too young. He sets off on his own and shoots a deer. An old chief meets him at the kill and tells him the story of the rainbow: a boy misused his magic bow and shot all the animals he could track down. The bear called him to account for this. The bear threw the boy's bow and arrows into the air. The result was the rainbow, a reminder to all hunters that no animal should be killed without need. The boy returns to the camp and joins in with the children's game.
