But later due to the jealousy and bad heabits children forget that they must love Granny, they begin to treat her just as a robot that "must do what they ask". As a result Granny dies. To resurect her Agata and friends must get off their ambitions, rudeness, jealousy and again become loving, cheerful and kind.

Every day he was terribly busy with the most ordinary children's activities: he did not prepare lessons, quarreled and put up with classmates, helped around the house and dabbled. He also planned a real murder, crossed paths with the criminal Fantômas, exposed the adult liars and thieves, participated in the selfless rescue of man...

When hunting season arrived and Alyosha realized he had been deceived, he shared his disappointment with his parents—and his father did everything he could to make the hunt happen.

This film was Sokurov's first feature at Lenfilm, roughly based on a short story by the contemporary Soviet writer Grigory Baklanov about the transitional period from power to subordinance.
