What happens when a documentary film breaks out of its comfort zone and openly provokes the society? To what extent my compatriots are willing to reflect on one particular episode, the reprisals in Odessa from October 1941?

The film follows the life and work of Romanian visual artist ION GRIGORESCU, one of the pioneers of experimental art in Europe. The film discusses our evanescent existence, morality, and spirituality and interrogates the possible extent of the inglorious recollection of our own biography.

Film is an exploration of a special universe: the annual vacation of a bunch of 70-year-old ladies. Far from men and the madness of daily life, Cica, Nana and their friends isolate themselves voluntarily in a villa in the countryside. Together they blend joie de vivre and memories, melancholia and joyfulness, gossip and jokes. All that to keep up the illusion that time has not passed, that they are still the same beautiful and attractive girls they were 50 years ago.

Balázs Szendőfi's nature documentary about the Apuseni Mountains explores an area where many regions are still somewhat white spots, both in terms of scientific exploration and public awareness. Located near Romania’s western border, and thus close to Hungary, the Apuseni Mountains lie at the boundary between Partium and Transylvania. Numerous rivers, including the Berettyó, the Criș rivers, and the Arieș, flow through this 145-million-year-old mountain range. The most diverse karst landscape in Europe is still entirely shaped by water. It is a world of cave entrances as high as twenty-five stories, chasms that yawn hundreds of meters deep, underground glaciers, and waterways that rise and fall below the surface. The landscape speaks through the narrator’s voice and, while presenting a fairytale-like wilderness, it also confronts us with the harsh and drastic ways in which we are destroying even the untouched nature of these inaccessible mountains, leaving less and less of it behind.

The Aromanians (Rrãmãnji) are an ethnic group found mainly in today’s Albania, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. For filmmaker Alexandra Gulea, this question of heritage is connected to the name she shares with her grandmother, who was born into a traditional Aromanian life, and is fluent only in an Aromanian language. The older Alexandra's father suffered a violent death in an uprising for his people's rights, which forced the family out of Greece and into a politically treacherous Balkan landscape deep in the throes of nationalist upheavals, until finally, they found a home in Romania.
