The intimacy of a couple of gay filmmakers trying to survive in the context of the rise of the far-right in Brazil.

Narrated in Kristang, a critically endangered creole language of Portuguese Eurasians, Saudade reimagines rituals of early Eurasian kampongs to tell a story of loss and displacement.

Tree Time imagines a relationship between nature and technology unmediated by human presence. The video was shot in the Amazon rainforest with a drone enacting a disembodied point of view that floats through the densely compressed forest canopy, taking off, hovering above the ground, and occasionally returning to it. The work’s title is informed by a series of interviews with a dendrochronologist who studies methods of tracking climate change by ‘reading’ the annual tree rings in the Amazon rainforest –ecological recordings reveal a hidden dimension of narrative time within nature itself.

A profound penetration into a fantastic and sensual world in which fruits and vegetables are mistaken as our deepest most hidden desires. Here, we have them in all sizes, all formats, all colors, for all tastes. In this market, no one goes home hungry.

The series, divided into four chapters, focuses on the culture’s four pillars: breakdance, graffiti, DJ and rap. “Painting Hip-Hop” is the series second chapter and focuses on graffiti, with interviews with some of the pioneers of portuguese street art scene: Nomen, Youthone, Uber, Vhils, DJ Glue, Odeith, Nurea, Maze, Third and Keso.

“Paisagem Submersa” revisits the submerged places in the waters of the Vouga River, which, according to popular belief, “always goes after what it is entitled to”. From the memories and voices of Cidália, the Marias Madalenas, as well as of Manuel and José, the stories of the past of two neighboring places, ever further apart, come to life.
