Threatened, they escape and return home together, where they find Hanka's father, Bereza. The year 1920 arrives. War breaks out, from which Zbych returns victorious to his Hanka. They set to work together and create a new, happy home.

The collective heroes of the film are the parents and families of gays and lesbians. We listen to the polyphony from which shock and horror emerges when the mother or father learns about the child's homosexual orientation. Over time, and at great cost, parents' attitudes evolve. Relationships are revalued, suffering seems to have a source other than the child's psychosexual orientation. The title "Mine is different" has a bitter question mark. Bold formal solutions emphasize the feeling of being surrounded and isolated. From this moving narrative emerges the transformation in the perception of homosexuality that has taken place in the Polish collective consciousness over the last few decades.
