Photographer Anna Smeets makes reportages all over the world. When her mother dies unexpectedly, she returns to her native Limburg village for the funeral. She decides to move into her mother's studio on the edge of the Galgenven and make pictures in the vein of her mother's paintings of the village and its inhabitants and the unique nature surrounding it. While Anna thus tries to regain her identity, it turns out that part of that nature will have to yield to project developers' plans. A fierce battle flares up between Anna and large landowner Hyacint de Beaumont. The village, where many people depend on him, is divided. When Anna finally seems to be all alone, she receives help from unexpected quarters. This has dramatic consequences.

We see shots of the editorial and administrative offices located on Groote Houtstraat 93, and the entrance to the printing buildings at Zuider Buiten Spaarne. Making the newspaper: typesetting the adverts, the typesetting machine, the design of the newspaper, the letterforms being pressed onto the damp raster, the electric drying drum, the raster being placed in the casting machine, the plates being mounted to the rotary machine, and the printing of the newspaper. We also see the newspaper being delivered via automobile and via paperboy. (There are also images of Haarlem shot from the Grote Kerk).

This documentary is about living with Alzheimer's, seen exclusively through the eyes of people who suffer from it. Eight of them live together under constant supervision and care. They are all in the first phase of the disease: bouts of lucidity, forgetfulness and falling into oblivion constantly alternate. The patients live their lives, as long as they're capable. The film is a 'tranche de vie': a portrait of the daily coming and going of people in that particular and ditto state. It is also the portrait of a brutal disease that irreversible expropriates the memory from the characters. Eventually the characters will have changed. Because of their illness, they may have been disappeared completely, physically or mentally.
A Roma without music is not really a Roma. In this personal quest to find the last Sinti and Roma, filmmaker Bob Entrop follows three gypsy bands. He travels with the Basily's to Prague, where they receive a warm welcome as a Dutch jazz band. Young Paulus Schäfer and his Gipsyband reach a high point when they perform together with the world-famous Rosenberg Trio. And with Roger, a Swiss musician/composer who has settled in the Netherlands, he visits his in-laws in Germany, where he sings a moving duet with his father-in-law, who has dementia. For all three, Django Reinhardt is the unsurpassed maestro.

From this orderly state deviations and differences in behaviour slowly become visible through the force of gravity. Resulting in unpredictable shapes and movements that somehow feel familiar.

NSB propaganda film showing footage of the first Hagespraak organized by the NSB in Lunteren. Participants from all over the country arrive in Lunteren by bicycle, car, or bus. Participants from Rotterdam and The Hague arrive by ship in Rhenen and proceed from there to Lunteren. Various people arrive in the traditional costume of their region. At the large gatherings, Mussert and Van Geelkerken give a speech. Afterwards, there is a picnic and beer is drunk. Probably an amateur film.
one-shot story of a woman struggling to come to terms with her emotions... or is it something else?
A woman browses photographs of a young girl. The child visits Disneyland, celebrates birthdays and poses with her parents. But the woman does not recognise the girl, even though it is her. Filmmaker and visual effects artist Yana Lineva distorts images and memories to draw a parallel with a puzzling event from the 90s, when hundreds of people flocked to a Bulgarian airport to welcome aliens that were supposed to look just like us.
Boiling the piss (2023/2024, 2’ 40’’) is my debut 16mm film made at the coast near Den Haag (NL) with artist Hedwich Rooks. Together, we collected our urine and shared it in one pot. We boiled it down and watched the water evaporate until the dark brown minerals started to accumulate at the bottom. Boiling the piss is a process film considering the values embedded in bodies through a shared metabolic conversion of waste. It follows my artistic investigation into researching urine as a photographic developer and/or possibly a fixer too. The negative film was developed with the traditional developer D96, while positive was printed with the urine-based developer. The film also contains a chemigram which combines the leftover materials transformed with the urine liquid inviting a viewer into the metabolizing processes. The sound was added in 2024 during the residency at SOLU/Bioart Society, Helsinki, as a site specific reverse recording of their toilet.
