A new show from the Ashton Brothers! Could it be any faster, more energetic, or more absurd? Definitely. In the circus and variety tradition, acts are passed down from father to son, and the Ashton family's treasure trove is still overflowing. An explosive cocktail of slapstick, magic, acrobatics, rock 'n' roll, and variety.

Wageningen Wereldstad takes you through the rich history and special significance of Wageningen. Along the banks of the Rhine, a city grew into a symbol of freedom and knowledge. The film explores age-old landscapes, from glacial ridges and river floodplains to hay meadows where agriculture and nature meet. We see how Wageningen developed from a fortified town into an industrial city and ultimately into an internationally recognized city of knowledge, with the university at the heart of global science and innovation. Residents of Wageningen speak at historic locations throughout the city about what connects them to those places. Wageningen Wereldstad is an ode to a city where past, nature, culture, and science come together — and where the flame of freedom continues to burn.

In a ‘tonal’ coloured 16mm film performance (with six Hokushins), a sonorous poem of twilight, indistinctness and suggestiveness, Urlus tries to make visible the darkness of a depressed mind. The suffering of an adolescent, the filmmaker’s daughter. Colours and mood are inspired by the famous photograph ‘The Pond – Moonlight’ by Steichen (1904) and the Nocturne paintings by Whistler (1870’).

Documentary about the Dutch writer Wim Hofman, the most acclaimed living writer from Zeeland. As a writer, poet and visual artist, Wim Hofman is completely unique. He writes dark stories with a gloomy beginning and a gloomy ending. No fairy tales with a 'happy ending' and certainly no sugary children's books, but nevertheless always full of humor and unexpected twists. The film depicts the production of Hofman's latest work and addresses various thematic periods in his oeuvre by looking back on his life.

Through Fever Dreams of a Hermit the artist tries to understand the multiple sides of caregiving, where the giver and receiver of care are never fully in an equal power balance. The multimedia project critiques, grieves and transforms the prevalent capitalist mindset of carelessness. Using Tarot as a metaphor for the uncertainties of life and the many unintended layers of our actions, the artist encourages the viewer to question their caregiving practices, and to care more gently. Can we tip the scales of carelessness to one of conscious interdependent care?

Three dancers are in the same room, but each in their own space. Each character shows glimpses of who she is and how they relate to a monologue-soundtrack that can be heard throughout the movie. For everyone the relationship with the text and the words are different. Gradually the voice breaks down, words tumble and meanings are lost. This has an impact on the dancers and the way they move. The tensions within the relationship with the voice come to a climax and something breaks. The dancers are free to move, free from words and semantic meaning. They breath and move as one organism and find ways to communicate in chaos and disharmony. The language moves to the background and loses its presence and impact. What remains is pure movement.

“Imagine this camera is your mother”, a father tells his daughter. In the 1990s, scores of families from the Republic of Moldova began a ritualised mail exchange between the mothers, who had emigrated for economic reasons, and their relatives back home. The former sent money and goods; the latter sent videotapes. These amateur recordings are the material of this film. They testify to the painful gaps the absent persons left in the lives of those who stayed behind.

From backstage to the stage, from the magic of an opera to the depths of a documentary, Inside My Heart pushes the boundaries between the rehearsal process and the performance, at the heart of a troupe of professional actors with intellectual disabilities. A radically imaginative film that uses all possible cinematographic means to make the romances, conflicts and questionings of these actors palpable with lightness, literally sucking us in with them in a baroque drama with fairy-tale overtones. Through the themes of homosexuality, eroticism and the relationship to the body, Inside My Heart questions the way we look at things and what we might take for granted.

Our bodies are semi-permeable. All over the world, stories are being told about heroes who magically “close” their bodies, so as to become invincible. This film follows one such story, as it is told in Santo Amaro, Bahia (Brazil). Besouro Mangangà was a capoeira player, a black hero, who had closed his body. No bullets, no knives or daggers could pierce his skin. Bahian men explain how “closing the body” makes sense in their precarious and violent world, and why, in the end, this closure can never be accomplished. Soon the filmmaker realizes that his film is not only about the people in Bahia. He too is struggling with the porosity of his body, endlessly trying to strike a balance between shutting the world out and letting the world in. Competing for the RAI Film Prize and Basil Wright Film Prize.
