The Lover Ever in Her Dream

Every three months, a Chinese single mother, Xue takes a 10-hour-journey from Hong Kong to her hometown in Fujian, China with one hand dragging her heavy luggage and another hand holding her child. Behind the gas masks of Hong Kong’s democracy movement, the often very young activists are just as diverse as the youths of the rest of the world. But they share a demand for democracy and freedom. They have the will and the courage to fight – and they can see that things are going in the wrong direction in the small island city, which officially has autonomy under China but is now tightening its grip and demanding that ‘troublemakers’ be put away or silenced. Amid the violent protests, we meet a 21-year-old student, a teenage couple and a new father.

A co-creation by Kongkee, Weigo Lee and Tsui Kahei. This is a sci-fi set in the 60s Hong Kong with a fictional history and a rewritten future. Illustrated with mesmerising colours, a robot is in search of the secrets of souls.

An overwhelming pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong (also described as the Occupy Movement or the Umbrella Revolution in the region) in 2014 has devastated many families in the city. A veteran journalist father, a policeman son and an activist daughter are living in a torn society of Hong Kong. The trios in the Suen family are caught off-guard by the teasing of Moerae, or the Goddess of Destiny. In philately, "tête-bêche", or head-to-tail in English, is used to referred to a pair of generic stamps which is inverted in relation to one another, either through a printing error or intentionally. The stamps are of special value only when they are unseparated. Metaphorically, "tête-bêche" can precisely reflected the portrayed family's tricky situation, that different role-plays or value judgments can lead to sparkling tension among family members, yet somehow the old saying of "blood is thicker than water" prevails.

At a zhizha shop, paperservant dolls eagerly await their destiny of being sent to serve their masters in the underworld. They must be sent out within forty-nine days following their masters’ death, or end their unfulfilled existence as waste paper. Old Mr. Yeung, owner of the zhizha shop, is determined to keep the artisan trade alive. Yet with the old neighbourhood being redeveloped, the shop’s business dwindles along with the chance for the kind-hearted Lo-mui and Kam-lo, two paper dolls crafted by old Mr. Yeung, to find a master. The dolls hatch a plan to escape in a race against time before their demise.

So Sam-long becomes a monk to disguise his revolutionary activities. On learning that his natural mother is still alive and living in Japan, he goes searching for her. There he meets his cousin Shizuko and falls in love with her. However, cognizant of the fact that he is a monk, So returns to China, leaving a letter for his lover.

In order to avoid young women being selected to enter the imperial palace, the parents hastily arrange marriages for their unmarried daughters with men they deemed suitable.

Secondary school teacher Mr. Leung meets his student Emily in a classroom after school to talk about her behavioural problems. He is subsequently arrested on Emily’s allegation of sexual assault. Before the trial takes place, Mr. Leung’s colleagues have already decided on his guilt. The school is anxious to brush the matter aside to save its reputation. But the grave is empty and all the men who were sent to burry it are found dead...
