In "Spaces #1", 8 beloved Greek directors shot, after commissioning by the Festival, a short film at home, making their own timely comment on the new reality that we live in. The project is inspired by the book "Species of Spaces" by the French novelist, filmmaker, documentalist, and essayist, Georges Perec and the days of quarantine. The idea is to create a film at home, using the environment, the people or the animals in that space. The only outdoor areas that may be used are outdoor living spaces, such as the terrace, the garden, the balcony and the stairwell. "My other lives" is Marianna Economou's submission.

Saint Moses was a bought slave of a wealthy landowner. He had a tough and awkward character and created a lot of problems every day, until his boss got angry and threw him on the street. Moses found refuge in a banditry and with his enormous physical strength it was not long before he was forced to become its leader. Once, chased by the authorities, for his many crimes, he went to hide deep in the desert where the most famous ascetics lived. His fellowship with the saints slowly made him date. He was overshadowed by the Grace of God, because repentance is a time of Grace, his heart softened, he truly repented and asked for redemption. His change was radical and in a short time he reached the measures of the great Fathers of the desert.

So close and yet, since the 1974 Turkish Invasion of Cyprus, so far given that we cannot freely visit and enjoy its beauty. This documentary, realised with the help of scientific consultants, undertakes a journey of familiarisation with the mountain range's unique geological development, its rich flora, and its superbly beautiful natural environment. A journey showcasing the resources openhandedly offered by the mountain range to its people, such as its mineral wealth, its building stones, its water, but also a familiarisation with the people who lived with these and were violently driven from their homes, becoming refugees in their very own country and who live and breathe with the hope and desire to once again see a reunified Cyprus.

The Tarahi series, IV, V and VI (2007) by Haris Epaminonda are developed from excerpts of Greek flm and television footage from the 60’s, attempting a mediation between diferent realities: the recent past, the everyday life and the upcoming future, translating them into a single plan.

Little Island is a short documentary about the story of a man who chose to abandon all other life and for almost 40 years live on a small greek island in the south of Crete. Through the years, he became one with the environment and managed to survive despite the many difficulties. When his stay on the island is disturbed by the tenacity of the forestry commission he is still not willing to leave the island. A person’s destiny always lies in his worst fears. And unlike all our worst fears a strong will hidden behind a life makes it always a worthwhile story to tell.

Bambie is an overseas Filipino worker. Now in her 40s, she has lived and worked as a hairdresser in Greece for the past four years. 'Roughcut' tells Bambie's story, while also zeroing in on immigration issues and the family she is forced to leave behind, playing mother, daughter and wife from afar. Bambie's relatives are completely dependent on her financially, but there's one thing that makes her different to all the rest: she is a male-to-female transsexual! 'Roughcut' is a story about identity and choice, manipulative families, underlying racism and the sacrifices we make to feel accepted. But it is also a celebration of life, the often joyful struggles to make ends meet and having fun, even if nothing seems to be going our way!
