Val/Val

Through seven bottles of magical wine, we follow the journey of Valentina, a beautiful artist living in Berlin. With a sordid history of sexual and physical abuse, and having been caught in the arms of her female lover by her wealthy, overbearing mother, Val is forced to make a choice: to live a 'normal' life, or be forever cut off - financially and emotionally. She concedes to her mother's ultimatum, and pursues a heterosexual relationship to appease her, only to catch her new boyfriend in bed with another man. Her inability to cope with her life triggers her repressed male alter-ego to emerge and take over.

I Have Lost Touch With the World

A film about Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, his last completed symphony. It features Riccardo Chailly rehearsing the Concertgebouw. Sometimes there’s shown the orchestra playing or, more often, Chailly conducting and commenting to the players, and sometimes with voice-over while the music continues underneath. There are commentaries concerning all four movements from Henry-Louis de la Grange, Mahler’s definitive biographer, a man who probably knows more about the composer than anyone, and from Chailly. There are snippets from other works, including a large part of a performance, unusually with a baritone (Thomas Hampson), of the ‘Abschied’ from ‘Das Lied von der Erde.’ Fully ten minutes of the fourth movement is played without interruption (in a dress rehearsal with audience). There is a reference after that to the impending departure of Chailly from the musical directorship of the orchestra after sixteen years; the film was made in 2004 and he has since been succeeded by Mariss Jansons.

Del olvido a la memoria. Presas de Franco

Documentary in which ten republican women remember their time in Franco's prisons. “Some put wedges in her nails; my sister-in-law has currents on her fingers and nipples; some have been raped”; “Since they hit first and then ask questions, they hit me.” “Baby, they have given us the death penalty. I told him: but, Virtudes, they will commute you!". These are some of the testimonies of ten Republican women in Franco's prisons that Tomasa Cuevas, a former member of the Communist Party, collected on an old recorder hidden in her bag so that they would not be lost in oblivion.

País de los Pueblos sin Dueños

Colombia will never be the same after those 61 days of the Social and Community Minga, which began on October 11, 2008, and culminated in Bogotá’s Plaza de Bolívar. From Cauca, the people of thought, speech, and dignity rose up to reject—in solidarity with “Another Colombia”—the state policies that, through terror, subject them to hunger and misery. As expected, the government responded with terror to a peaceful mobilization, and its actions left two dead and 120 injured.
