It was filmed with an endoscope, the optical system with which you can go directly on and into the body. Due to technical conditions (light intensity, etc.), it was shot on 16mm film. The trick editing was done on high-tape with a special effects generator. The story is told by a sailor whose sea wife always wants to hear the story again, when she is in his arms.

It has become too cramped in the Berlin apartment shared by three generations of a Chilean immigrant family when the paralyzed grandfather decides to return to his Chilean homeland. Under the suspicious gaze and accompanied by impotent attempts at action by the other family members, he sets off with his wife and an uncle. Their odyssey through Berlin lasts exactly one day.

Walzer is an excerpt taken from a work by the same name. Pina Bausch premiered it in the summer of 1982 at the Carré Theatre in Amsterdam and filmed it in the autumn of the same year in the theatre of Wuppertal. When in 1986 the German radio station Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Hamburg asked for a recording, Pina Bausch selected and edited the material into the film Walzer.

Shot in a neo-expressionist style, the film is a satire on cults of any kind. The plot follows Frankie and Hannes, a young gay couple living in Berlin. One is studying art and the other medicine. Their happy life is disrupted when Frankie attends a lecture and quickly becomes involved in a sinister cult operating as a self-help group called “Optimal Optimism”. Madame C, a former Nazi party member, is the leader of Optimal Optimism. When the cult members discovers that Frankie is gay, he is repeatedly raped by both men and women of the group. Hannes must find a way to rescue him.
