Five friends decide to establish a mafia network in their provincial town but encounter several obstacles, including personal greed, love and existing drug networks within the first weeks of their venture.

"Searching for the Perfect Gentleman — an Investigative Journey" is a documentary about the search of an African barber shop poster. The virtual journey takes the viewer to various African, European and Asian countries, in order to find the place where it was originally created, produced and sold. What seems easy in the beginning turns out to be a demanding process, yet an interesting experience in accessing information, communicating with people from totally different backgrounds and indulging in uncertainty, to celebrate the search itself — wherever it may lead. The film shows how boundaries between originality and reproduction merge, in a world where everything can be remixed and reprinted easily. Searching for the Perfect Gentleman tells a multi-layered story about trust, persistence and interconnectedness in a globalized world.

"Over a period of five months, I had my super 8 camera with me at all times. Once every hour I made a shot of myself, wherever I happened to be, interrupting any activity whatsoever. For the hours I slept at night, I filmed black. I changed speed and focus in different variations, and decided on these changes during the filming. I do not consider this film as a self portrait. I simply had to film myself as representing any person in time and space, since no one else could be around all the time. Twenty years later one more week." - M.G.

But Frederick could also be a brutal tyrant. He had his son Heinrich rot in the dungeon, for his imperial honour went before everything else.

Rudolf Thome’s idiosyncratic oeuvre was created with a continuity rare in German cinema – he has directed 28 feature-length films over more than four decades since 1968. The writing of the script for film no. 29 and the parallel efforts to secure financing form the thread that runs through this cinematic portrait, which consists wholly of conversations and observations around Thome’s home, a converted farm in Brandenburg. The filmmaker is nothing if not forthcoming, and the viewer has the opportunity to experience him in various other roles: as a gardener, a father, a cyclist, and a performer of his own persona.
