The cinematographer and idiosyncratic filmmaker Elfi Mikesch has significantly contributed to the extension of the aesthetic boundaries of the "standard" documentary.

Flashy shows, synthetic pastel worlds and androgynous faces: so-called K-pop, a form of Korean pop music, is taking the charts and stock markets by storm all over the world. But where does this fascination with this music come from? The documentary explores the social context behind this phenomenon.

Five brothers first opened the bar "Onis" in 1976 after migrating to Madrid in the early 1970's from a village in the North of Spain. The possibility of making money brought them into the hospitality business in the big city. Since the opening of the "Onis" forty years ago, they have worked together almost every single day.

They were born and raised on a small island amidst a vast natural landscape - four sisters who now live in cities. Their parents have left Germany to raise their children far from consumerism and external control. On a visit back to the island, the sisters bring along some of the pace and concerns of our world today.

In 1988, Albert Venzago set out to cross Africa on a Vespa. After miles in the blistering heat, it broke down in a remote village in Benin. There he encountered Mahounon, one of the most influential voodoo priests of West Africa. Abandoning his planned trip, Venzago set out instead on an odyssey through the world of African voodoo, to which he and his camera gained extraordinary access. Venzago followed Mahounon with his camera for nearly ten years, filming secret Voodoo ceremonies and sacrificial rituals. He witnessed Mahounon’s extraordinary search for a successor to lead the cult, and he watched as the anointed eleven-year old boy, Gounon, was schooled in black and white magic, rituals, and the intricate workings of the Fa, or Voodoo oracle. Venzago’s camera evokes the religious ecstasy of these ceremonies as well as their otherworldly atmosphere. His photographs illuminate this mysterious and potent Voodoo culture and religion.

Body in Plural moves between bodies and buildings to trace how a single historic event continues to reverberate through time. From a 1988 mass performance in Yugoslavia to today's protests in Serbia, the film questions how freedom can still be imagined, not as possession, but as relation.

Can school be exciting and even fun? The integrative pre-vocational August Sander school in Berlin-Friedrichshain at least seems the perfect place for this. The noise of the cars of the big city can be heard from the distance, birds are singing on the lush green grounds. Lessons here include horticulture, agriculture and animal care. And when you watch the students weed garden plots and feed rabbits, things look extremely enviable at first glance. Over the past hundred years, dramatic social upheavals have taken place in the name of Karl Marx's theories. In Western Europe, the student movement of 1968 and the Eurocommunists were inspired. And in recent times, the thinker has experienced a renaissance.

The film documents the work of an anti-authoritarian and self-organized school store in Witzlebenstraße in Berlin-Charlottenburg, which emerged as a critique of the development of children's stores. The film shows how the teachers discuss the conversion of open spaces into playgrounds with the children and how the children jointly prepare the publication of their newspaper "Radau". The concept of the children's stores was developed by the Action Council for the Liberation of Women, which emerged from the Socialist German Student Union (SDS), at the Free University of Berlin (FU) and was organized as self-help from January 1968. Helke Sander was one of the co-founders of the Action Council.

Russians bombarded Bucha, Borodyanka, Irpin and other cities in the region following their invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. By the time they retreated a month later, the damage was huge: buildings had been destroyed and there were corpses lying in the streets. Filmmakers Mila Teshaieva and Marcus Lenz went in immediately, in time to film local people emerging from their shelters, but never showing the actual atrocities. That wasn’t necessary, as the trauma of war is clear to see on everyone’s faces, including those of the volunteers who rushed in from far and wide to help.

After each new crime, the department store blackmailer Scrooge comes up with a more sophisticated method of handing over money. The Soko is often hot on his heels, checking thousands of traces and countless clues, but he always manages to escape.
