Max is a 14-year old petty thief in a small New Jersey town who fancies himself a guy with all the goods. When his rivalry with Willy, a thin-skinned fireman, flares up, Max seeks vengeance by stealing the heart of Willy's fiancé, Shelly. Willy's jealousy inflamed, he cuts the half-pint hero down to size. Max responds by resolving to end their rivalry once and for all. With gun in hand he arrives at Willy's house foe the final showdown. But is Max man enough for the job?

Three stars appear in two separate but intertwined stories of romantic triangles gone wrong in this ambitious drama. In the first segment, Hagolin is a loutish construction worker with an unhappy wife, Eponine. The wife becomes involved with a swarthy working man, Larnier, and their passion knows no boundaries of caution or safety. Eventually, Eponine's and Larnier's lust drives them to madness, and they murder Hagolin. The second tale concerns an up-and-coming young lawyer, Claude, whose mentor is a highly successful veteran attorney, Lamerciere, with a beautiful young wife named Florence. Claude finds himself defending Larnier and Eponine, while Lamerciere dies of a heart attack after he discovers that Florence has been unfaithful to him with Claude.

Christopher Bennett, a police detective from Phoenix, Arizona, is struggling from memories of a case from his past, and after a heated altercation with his wife Elizabeth, he decides to go on vacation to his hometown of Galesburg, Illinois. Local sheriff, Alex Cimbol, an old family friend, hears of Bennett's return and asks for his assistance in an ongoing investigations, They soon discover a number of elaborate and grotesque murders and realize they are dealing with fanatic religious cult.

Rex Radcliffe, vice president of the Northern Atlantic Railroad, is opposed by company president William Harding in his desire to put over a deal that would jeopardize the stockholders of the Interstate Railroad. Using thought control, he causes Weer, Harding's discharged secretary, to murder his ex-boss. Weer is arrested for the murder. Radcliffe then puts Harding's daughter, Helen, also under his influence. John Bonham, Interstate president, becomes interested in the case, and with the aid of Mrs. Weer he exposes Radcliffe, who then commits suicide.
