The Spice of Life

A series of vignettes, in which Noel-Noel appears as the moderator, lecturer, commentator and leading actor, that examine the bores and pests of everyday life much like Pete Smith and Robert Benchley had done for years in American short subjects. Among those are the Practical Joker who will do anything for a laugh; the Party Entertainer who never stops singing; the Talkative Neigbor who forgets the time; the noisy neighbors who dance the tango all night; and women drivers, people who telephone at meal time, the friend you never saw before and amatuer medical experts. Much use of trick photography, montages, puppets and animation along with some adult Gallic wit and gentle satire.

Nos voisins Dhantsu

Québec comedians Réal Béland and Stéphane K. Lefebvre take off for the land of the rising sun, Japan. In Nos voisins Dhantsu, they prove once again that no culture is too different to take on. Their travelogue, mostly limited to Tokyo, is at times well-planned and executed in tightly rehearsed situations, sometimes the scenes use local actors and crew, and then at other times the film erupts in the complete craziness of improvisational comedy. Nos voisins Dhantsu captures Béland's view of an ordered, modest and mysterious society, often by challenging the stereotypical order and discipline that we think of when we think of Japan.

Onésime et le pas de l'ours

The fact that the Four Arts Club were organizing an international competition of modern dances was welcome news to Simple Simon. When he ascertained that the dances would include the Cake Walk, Serpentine Crawl. Piccadilly Flop, Tango, the Wriggly Wriggle, and the Bear Dance, he selected the latter. Simon resolved to seek a teacher in its native haunts. He wandered up the mountainside and chanced upon a strolling Bruin, which he decided to capture. Learning to dance in the ordinary way holds sufficient excitement for most people. Simon, however, found that the bear dance provided unsuspected thrills. He made rapid progress, so much so in fact he won the prize.
