**_“The world is a kingdom of pain and suffering”_** In the Badlands of North Dakota, 1890, a nun (Tiffany Cornwell) helps a wounded outlaw (Daniel Bielinski) and uses him to find a remote church facility, but the man’s former boss, an arrogant sadist, doesn’t take kindly to this (Andrew E. Wheeler). “Sanctified” (2022) takes the basic premise of “Two Mules for Sister Sara” and mixes it with the gritty realism of life on the prairie in the Old West of “Bad Company” (1972). It’s a morality tale that examines the toughest questions of life, such as ‘Is there a God?’ and ‘If there is, why does the Creator allow people to brutally suffer in a godforsaken world?’ It pulls no punches and is reminiscent of “The Proposition” in some ways. It runs 1 hour, 29 minutes, and was shot in Medora in west-central North Dakota. GRADE: B

Hud

Hud Bannon is a ruthless young man who tarnishes everything and everyone he touches. Hud represents the perfect embodiment of alienated youth, out for kicks with no regard for the consequences. There is bitter conflict between the callous Hud and his stern and highly principled father, Homer. Hud's nephew Lon admires Hud's cheating ways, though he soon becomes too aware of Hud's reckless amorality to bear him anymore. In the world of the takers and the taken, Hud is a winner. He's a cheat, but, he explains, "I always say the law was meant to be interpreted in a lenient manner."
