I've always felt that the prospect of getting old or infirm and being confined to a care home quite horrifying, however well meaning your cumpulsory attendance is being enforced. Here, we meet the elderly “Gina” (Piera Degli Esposti) who's in a similar situation and whose daughters think she ought to stay put and not attend the wedding of her grand-daughter. She plays their game until they have gone, but then in cahoots with the kindly janitor (Gianni Lilli) manages to escape and make for the venue. Snag? Well she isn't entirely sure which venue she is supposed to be going to, and the first nuptials she attends in church isn't the the right one. Nor is the next, nor the next. Now a little in despair, she alights on “Giacomo” (Cosimo Cinieri) and his dog who offers to drive her around the locale in the fairly forlorn hope that they might stumble upon the actual ceremony. Along the way, both of them begin to enjoy each other's company and realise that just because both of them are septagenarians, their lives are far from over. This is actually quite a funny travelogue of Italian wedding venues as they embark on their trek, but it still points out clearly that there is a tendency to consign our older relatives to establishments that may well provide them with some comforts and security, but that merely ensure they die of boredom long before any illness takes it's toll. With a glint in both of their eyes, this delivers an amiable ten minutes of defiance.
