'Svani' does have a good story at its heart, though the way it is brought to life isn't the best; even if it is still almost watchable. The acting and the writing is what holds this back, for me anyway. I will say that the cinematography (only me that thinks so, it seems!) and score are pluses though, I dug both. Badri Jachvliani is a decent lead, though Darejan Kharshiladze is the one onscreen that I'll most remember from this 2007 film; her Martha is the most interesting character, in my opinion. They both star in a plot that does get dark, which is actually another element of this to praise in fairness.

After the lewd and frenetic Dance of the Seven Veils, and with the solemn pledge from the very lips of Herod himself that she could have whatever her heart desires up to half his kingdom, wanton and proud young Salomé comes before her king with an unreasonable demand. Beguiled by John the Baptist, and then scorned for the sake of his god, lascivious Salomé—encouraged by her mother, the vindictive, Herodias—commands that John be executed and his head delivered on a silver platter.
