I really wish this wasn't quite as bland as it is. They do some work on characters to try to make them engaging so that the tension becomes real, but the characters don't really stick and therefore the tension is superficial and it never really gets to be scary. Some might call that a slow burn, but when the end result is this boring then it doesn't actually seem to have a payoff. The movie is reasonably well cast and uses its effect budget well, but the writing and directing simply leaves it wanting.
