Cayalti 1950

The struggle for the rights of peasants in Peru began when independence from the Spanish monarchy was achieved. Since then, the land and its farmers have continued to be exploited. The documentary ‘Cayaltí 1950’ narrates the massacre that took place more than 70 years ago in the small town of Lambayeque, in northern Peru. One of the many historical exterminations of Latin American farmers that, in this case, marked the working community prior to General Velazco's Agrarian Reform. The annihilation left 120 deaths and a great silence, a product of the oblivion of the state and the impunity of the multinational.
