Lil Wayne: Takin' Over Hip Hop Unauthorized

The film documentary tells the tale of the charismatic Southern rapper, Lil Wayne, and his rise to super stardom. Wayne began his industry ascendance as one of the Hot Boys, a short-lived Cash Money Records all-star group. After establishing himself as a successful solo artist, he grew to become a critical favorite, known especially for his entertaining underground mixtapes. A pair of popular '05 mixtapes further established Wayne as a dexterous freestyle rapper and helped garner additional interest in his music among listeners who weren't part of the usual Cash Money constituency. By the end of the year, Wayne's reputation was such that Tha Carter Vol. 2, his next Cash Money album, debuted at number two on Billboard's album chart upon its December release, and did so without the benefit of a smash hit or the productions of workhorse Mannie Fresh, who had left Cash Money. With his southern charm and soft spoken voice, Lil Wayne is takin' over hip hop.

After all, what harm can there be in buying a fake designer bag or trainers - all you're doing is denting the profits of the multinational manufacturers. But, as the first of this two-part investigation shows, it goes much deeper than that. For instance, with the counterfeit market now encompassing pharmaceutical drugs, consumers could be damaging themselves, too.

Amish in the City

Amish in the City is an American reality television series by Stick Figure Productions and UPN. The plot revolved around five Amish teenagers experiencing "modern" culture by living in a house with six mainstream American teenagers. The show follows the Amish teenagers as they explore their freedom from the Amish religious code, which is a common element of the Rumspringa period before they decide whether to join the Amish church. Typically, nearly 90% of teenagers end their Rumspringa with the choice to be baptized as Amish; however, at the conclusion of the show, it was unclear which of the show's participants chose not to return to the Amish church and which went back to the Amish way of life. Many accused the show of giving the participants an unrealistic view of "modern" culture and of showing the behavior of the unadjusted Amish like a "spectator sport" for mainstream American viewers. The producers stated that they plan to follow the original series with updates on the current status of the cast, especially since their decisions at the end of the series may change. The concept was initially denounced by some for appearing to capitalize upon popular stereotypes about the Amish; later critical reviews were more positive.

Your Place or Mine?

Your Place or Mine? is an American television game show that ran for six weeks on TLC. It was hosted by Cameron Mathison. Each episode featured two families competing to win several completely furnished rooms for their respective homes. Designated locations in each house needing an overhaul are identified prior to the show and shots of both are shown as the "before" images. Although the furnishings were the same regardless of which family wins a room, the two physical rooms were unlikely to be similar, so a designer presumably came up with a layout which would work for each in advance.
