Meng Lijun

"Meng Lijun" (孟丽君) is a 1995 Huangmei Opera musical television series starring Han Zaifen (韩再芬) and directed by Hu Liancui (胡连翠). It is adapted from the ballad "Rebirth"(再生缘) by Chen Duansheng (陈端生) of the Qing Dynasty. The play tells the story of Meng Lijun (孟丽君), who disguises herself as a man to become the top scholar in the imperial examination in order to avenge her family, and is eventually pardoned by the court. The play won the Best Opera Film Award at the 13th Golden Eagle Awards. After its broadcast, it promoted the popularization of Huangmei Opera, and the number of Han Zaifen's (韩再芬) fans increased dramatically across the country.
