Spectacular Spas

Spectacular Spas is a Canadian television travel series about spa treatments from around the world. The series began in 1998. Hosted by Carrie Olver, the programme mainly visits destination spas and day spas, and has been to many different world regions — including all around North America, as well as the Caribbean, Scandinavia, England, central Europe and east Asia — in search of different sorts of treatments and experiences. It covers types of massage particular to a region; areas with natural hot springs for bathing, different kinds of cuisine, alternative holistic treatments and materials thought to have healing qualities are also explored. The mood of the programme is very relaxed, and its theme tune and incidental music are deliberately soothing, to reflect the subject matter. It has been shown worldwide since beginning on Canada's Life Network, to NDTV in India and You TV in the UK. The large amount of nudity on Spectacular Spas is not usually a problem for censors, since only Carrie Olver's back is exposed when she gets massaged, but You TV decided to cut out a sequence where she stripped off her towel in a river after having a mud bath.

Stars on Trial

Stars on Trial is a MuchMusic television special based on the MuchMusic television program Video on Trial. It premiered in late December 2005, as part of the network's annual "Holiday Wrap." Stars on Trial uses basically the same concept as Video on Trial. However, the special was a full hour long as opposed to being a half-hour long and took place in an actual courtroom set instead of a black background set. Also, the jury analyzed celebrities themselves instead of just music videos. The show was MuchMusic's highest rated special of the year other than the MuchMusic Video Awards.

Tallship Chronicles

Tall Ship Chronicles was a television series produced in Canada in 2001 and 2002. It followed the training of Canadian journalist and actor Andrew Younghusband on an 18-month sail training voyage around the World, on the barque Picton Castle. Originally, a new episode was aired approximately once per month. Some of the people in the show are the ship's professional crew, while the many are trainees who joined the ship to travel or learn about tall ship sailing. The number of crew when the ship began its voyage from Nova Scotia, Canada, was approximately four dozen. Some of the trainees had only booked one leg of the voyage while others had signed on for the entire 18 months. Some left early because they fell in love while on board — or because of personality conflicts — while others decided to stay on board longer than they'd initially planned. The show follows the interpersonal relations between many of the people on board while also showing a bit about the various islands the ship visits during the voyage. This is not a reality show - it is a television production that began after those on board had made the decision to join the ship. This was the Picton Castle's second sail-training voyage around the World. The vessel contained a supply of text books in her hold, which she distributed to a number of isolated communities in the South Pacific, including The Cook Islands, Pitcairn Island, Tonga, French Polynesia, Samoa, and Fiji. The show first aired in Canada and has subsequently been aired in various European markets.

Stars Gone Wild

Stars Gone Wild was a mockumentary series created by Adam Halpern on MuchMusic that critiques the lifestyle of modern celebrities. The title of the show is a parody of the Girls Gone Wild series. It is based on the special Overrated in 06. After one season and 28 episodes the show was cancelled due to poor ratings and negative audience reaction. Speculation that the show would be cancelled occurred after the show did not return in September 2008, and the cancellation was confirmed when a replacement show began to air. The show premiered well as a Video on Trial spinoff, but the ratings continued falling with many viewers voicing their displeasure with the show on the MuchMusic website forums.
