East Germany in the early 1960s. Lotte Reinhardt, a 26-year-old shipyard worker, has a dream: she wants to become an astronaut. She shares her passion for space travel with her grandfather, a rocket engineer who, after fleeing the Soviet Union, develops new rocket propulsion systems in Augsburg. He and his granddaughter soon come under the Stasi’s scrutiny. After the Berlin Wall is built, Lotte joins a resistance group in the GDR. However, her boyfriend Holger informs on the group to the Stasi. Shortly thereafter, he is dead. The murder is pinned on Lotte. Her only option is to flee to the West. In Augsburg, she falls in love with Oskar, a scientist on her grandfather’s team. But Stasi officer Moll tracks Lotte down in the West and offers her a treacherous deal.

Der Letzte seines Standes? Is a documentary television series of the BR. On behalf of the Bayerischer Rundfunks, several filmmakers produced 30-minute film documentaries on old craftsmanship and old production methods. The aim of the series was to portray centuries of craft trades that are threatened with extinction because of industrial progress. In the individual documentation craftsmen were represented in the manual production of a product corresponding to their guild. The protagonist provides information about his apprenticeship, his working life, but also about the recipes, handbooks, materials and techniques of the traditional way of producing his product.

There are incredible things on the remote South Sea island of Titiwu: a school that you can skip with impunity and a harmony between humans and animals that was thought to be lost. The absent-minded Professor Habakuk Tibatong has taught some animals to speak. For example, the pig lady Wutz, the shoebill Shush, Ping Penguin and the monitor lizard Wawa. On the rocky reef, the elephant seal sings his "traurögön Lödör" all the time. Unfortunately, every one of them except Wutz has a speech impediment. The orphan Tim Tintenklecks helps the professor when it comes to getting the animals excited about a joint project. And one day it happens: a block of ice is stranded on the shore. Inside is an egg from which a primeval creature hatches - the Urmel. And it can even talk. Professor Tibatong, who has always believed in the existence of the Urmel, does something stupid...
