Britney and Kevin: Chaotic

Britney and Kevin: Chaotic is an American reality television series created by Anthony E. Zuiker. Starring American recording artist Britney Spears and her then-husband Kevin Federline, the five-episode series aired on UPN from May 17 to June 14, 2005. The series chronicles the couple's relationship from their courtship, engagement and wedding. A majority of the footage was originally shot for Spears' own reality series to document the European leg of The Onyx Hotel Tour in the spring of 2004. Spears fell and injured her left knee during the shooting of the music video for "Outrageous", causing the remainder of the tour and the series to be cancelled. Britney and Kevin: Chaotic was heavily criticized by critics, who deemed the series to be career suicide for Spears. Critics noted Spears' excessive narcissism and criticized the themes of the series as being too explicit. The DVD release of Britney and Kevin: Chaotic included Spears' first extended play of the same name.

My Fair Brady

My Fair Brady is a celebrity reality television show on VH1 that follows Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch, and Adrianne Curry, who won the first season of America's Next Top Model, a year after they met and fell in love on the reality show The Surreal Life. The show appears to have originated from a Season 4 episode of The Surreal Life, during which each cast member pitched a TV show idea to network executives. Adrianne's concept, which she called Beauty and the Brady, was a show about her and Knight's then-fledgling romance, in which she would attempt to convince Knight to marry her. Within that episode, Adrianne's idea was passed over in favor of that of castmate Da Brat, but the latter's show never came to fruition.

Invasion Iowa

Invasion Iowa is a television series that aired on Spike TV beginning on March 29, 2005, on ITV4 beginning on 3 November 2005 and The Comedy Channel in April 2007. The series depicts events from September 2004, in which William Shatner played a hoax on the small town of Riverside, Iowa by claiming to film a science fiction movie there. Unbeknownst to the residents of Riverside, the movie was in fact fake, a satire on the genre. In front of and behind the cameras, Shatner and his purported entourage performed a living, breathing parody of Hollywood. Producers designed the various plots and gags to elicit reactions from the townspeople. Shatner played the part of the eccentric star. Improvisational actors pretended to be members of his entourage. Residents of Riverside were encouraged to audition for parts in the movie and take jobs on its crew, only to bear witness, firsthand, to an elaborate send-up of tinseltown. Producers chose Riverside because it is the self-proclaimed future birthplace of Shatner's most enduring character, Captain James T. Kirk. Invasion Iowa was created by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who also created Spike TV's earlier "reality parody" series, The Joe Schmo Show, and its sequel, Joe Schmo 2.

Trapped in the Closet

Trapped in the Closet on the Independent Film Channel (IFC), starring Grammy-winner R. Kelly as Sylvester, is one of the most unusual creative endeavors in recent history. Originally aired in 2005 and 2007 as a series of 22 short videos, Trapped in the Closet is now available in its entirety. Perhaps the first R&B operetta artist ever, R. Kelly takes us through a musical soap opera of the lives of Sylvester, his wife Gwendolyn (Cat Wilson), and an ever-increasing circle of community members connected in some way to the couple. Sometimes comic, sometimes tragic, there are surprises at every turn. While maintaining a single melody and rhyme scheme throughout, R. Kelly masterfully weaves a tale of love and deceit, complete with cut scenes, dream sequences, and flashbacks. To add to the fun, Kelly plays several roles himself, including a narrator in an angelic white suit, a holy roller preacher, and an unrepentant pimp.

The Most Extraordinary Space Investigations

A marijuana induced experiment that generated more data than ever expected, MESI was a show that taught us all a lot of lessons, none of which may ever be agreed upon. Rejected by the prime time panel, it was the only show to ever enter the screening via the short-lived "wildcard" system, then went on to garner more votes by acquiring the beloved Sarah Silverman and heroically committing to its anti-production value. After entertaining many, irritating many and confusing many more, MESI was put to an appropriate death in the bloody Halloween screening of 2005.

Statler and Waldorf: From the Balcony

Statler and Waldorf: From the Balcony is a multi-award–winning webshow starring the Muppet characters, Statler and Waldorf. It ran biweekly on Movies.com from June 2005 until September 2006. The series spawned 35 episodes and featured many Muppet characters — both well-known and newly created characters. The two elderly curmudgeons would discuss upcoming films, watch the latest movie trailers and share the week's "balconism" from their theater box. Many of the webisodes featured a segment with other Muppet characters — for example, Pepe the King Prawn often reviewed the recent DVD releases or gave remote reports, fictional movie trailers, or commercials starring other Muppet characters. Many established Muppet characters appeared in these segments - like Rowlf the Dog, the Swedish Chef, and Bobo the Bear. Plus, many new recurring and one-time gag characters would appear in segments, sketches, and parodies – for example, Larry and Oliver, Lester Possum, and Ted Thomas.

Miss Seventeen

Miss Seventeen is a reality television show on MTV that aired from October 17, 2005 to December 19, 2005. The show consisted of 17 young women competing for an internship at and a college scholarship. Atoosa Rubenstein was the main judge, she was the youngest editor-in-chief ever to run Seventeen magazine. They picked 17 girls from around the United States who were not only photogenic but also had been at the top of their class, to provide a role model for young women. The girls were flown to New York, where they would take part in a contest similar in format to The Apprentice — they would be given tasks to be done by Atoosa, and in each episode one of the girls would be eliminated from the competition. The winner would get her face on the cover of Seventeen magazine, a college scholarship and would be offered an internship job on the magazine. The criteria for elimination were not only performing poorly — Atoosa was watchful of how the girls talked when no one else was in the room, via cameras set up around the house. In this manner, she could watch the girls with their guards down and see what their real motivations and dreams were. In one elimination, for example, Atoosa sat down with the girl and explained that she didn't feel that the girl was in the contest for the 'right' reasons — video clips were shown to the viewers which showed the girl talking to her other roommates and explaining that she was more interested in the face-time she would get for being part of an MTV show.

The Will

The Will is an American reality television series on CBS that lasted only one episode, shown on Saturday, January 8, 2005. It centered on the "Benefactor", a multi-millionaire from Arizona named Bill Long. Ten of his friends and relatives competed in a series of challenges to win the right to inherit his "prized possession", a huge Kansas ranch. The show was created by Mike Fleiss, who produced The Bachelor for ABC. The Will is one of only a handful of series in American history to be pulled after one episode. In the case of The Will, cancellation was due to very low ratings. Despite receiving a heavy promotional push from CBS, the program averaged only 4.2 million viewers during its 8:00-9:30PM ET/PT time slot, which made it CBS's lowest-ranked show of the week. The following Saturday, the network replaced it with a re-run of Cold Case, a crime drama. The quick cancellation of The Will was lampooned on an episode of the ABC late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a montage of clips from the show, and the message "Will Miss You--January 8, 2005 - January 8, 2005." Although it was initially reported that the five remaining episodes could appear on an American cable network, they eventually did air on the Fox Reality Channel not long afterwards, and all six episodes aired in New Zealand beginning in December 2005. In the final episode, Long's wife Penny became the overall winner.
