The Weimar Republic (1918-1933) is regarded as a departure into the modern age, which failed because too many opponents wanted to put the clock back in the past. The need in Germany was not yet sufficiently developed to face democracy and take political fate into its own hands.

30 Germans have taken up permanent residence at Villa Germania in Pattaya, Thailand. In the 11-storey residential complex, apartments are sold and rented exclusively to German-speaking expats. The eight-part docu-soap introduces two of the very different residents: Horst and Ingo lead a life here, often together with their wives, somewhere between structure and madness. Horst has been managing the residential complex for several years and rents out apartments to pensioners, long-term vacationers and dropouts. But he also immerses himself in Pattaya's notorious nightlife with his best buddy Ingo - and the camera is always there.

There is hardly a metropolis that does not have a luxury department store as its flagship - the temples of consumption are not only masterpieces of architecture, they are also chroniclers of the history of the people of their country - their fashions, lifestyles and aspirations.
