Ray Mears' World of Survival is a survival television series hosted by Ray Mears. The series airs on the BBC in United Kingdom, it is also shown on Discovery Channel in the United States, Canada, India, Italy, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands and Russia. The show was first broadcast in 1997 with "The Arctic", and ended in 1998. It would be followed by Extreme Survival. In World of Survival, Ray demonstrates his wilderness skills and is taught new skills in every episode, like rubbing two sticks together to make fire. The show also has a cult status. Due to its popularity, more Ray Mears shows have since been produced.

Äntligen hemma is a Swedish TV show on TV4 about home improvement. The show includes DIY interior decorating tips for home owners. The host, Martin Timell, is trained as a carpenter although he has worked as a host for various TV shows since 1984. The name is also Swedish for home at last: Äntligen = Finally + Hemma = Home.

In the 1950s, young boys were placed in orphanages and endure harsh and austere living conditions. As a united group, they supported each other and survived despite bullying, hardship and little hope for better days. While these children were doing their best to survive, they had no way to suspect the secret dealings between the clergy, the medical profession and the government that will inevitably seal their fates. The institution faced with a precarious financial situation, the solution is to transform the orphanage into a psychiatric institute in order to obtain additional subsidies. To demonstrate the need for this change in status, the orphans are labeled as insane by the very people who took them in to help them. While their future as orphans was already precarious, they become prisoners of an asylum system from which they have little hope of being able to free themselves even as they grow older.

Sessions at West 54th was an American television program that featured music performances, and was in some ways a pop music variation on the theme set by the long-lived Austin City Limits, though the featured musicians represented a number of musical genres. It was called Sessions at West 54th because it was taped at Sony Music Studios on West 54th Street in Manhattan. It was produced for public television syndicator American Program Service and was carried on many public television stations. It first aired in most places on July 5, 1997, when it was included in the Saturday late-night lineup of stations covering 85% of the country. Austin Stories is MTV's first ever prime time situation comedy, which debuted September 10, 1997, and aired Wednesday nights at 10:30 pm. The show aired twelve episodes filmed on location in Austin, Texas. An MTV search brought executives James Jones and Lisa Berger to Austin in 1994. Jones had previous produced The Ben Stiller Show and Berger was vice-president and director of development at the network. MTV scouts were drawn to the city's emerging comedy scene and noticed Laura House, Howard Kremer and Brad "Chip" Pope. They were all discovered at a showcase for MTV at the Laff Stop for professional comics. All three had to pull strings to get on the showcase as none of them had been paid for their comedy. House was a junior high journalism teacher when she was cast on the show. Both she and Brad "Chip" Pope were University of Texas graduates. Originally, the show was only guaranteed 13 episodes on the channel. In March 1997, MTV flew House, Kremer and Pope to Los Angeles to write two scripts in three days. Austin Stories was green-lighted on March 20, 1997 and they often spent 16-hour days working on the show with taping wrapping in November. Their contract expired on May 8, 1998 and MTV extended it for three more weeks before permanently canceling the show on June 1, 1998.

Titch was a stop-motion children's television programme that originally aired on Children's ITV from 1997 to 2000. Then from 2001-2006 shown on Tiny Living, before appearing on Milkshake in 2006 as Tiny Living went off-air. It was created by Pat Hutchins, also the creator of the Titch book series.

Guerra de Canudos is a 1997 Brazilian film, of the drama genre, directed by Sérgio Rezende. It was shown in miniseries format on TV Globo, between December 16 and December 19, 1997, in 4 chapters, replacing "Decadência", and being replaced by "Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands", being the first time that the broadcaster adapted the exhibition of a feature film in this format, an expedient that became be used more frequently since then.

Clive Barker's A-Z of Horror was a documentary series first broadcast on BBC2 in 1997. It was written and hosted by Clive Barker and explored the history of horror, from the cinema to art. A tie-in book was released featuring art work by Barker and film reviews by Stephen Jones.

Land of the Tiger is a BBC nature documentary series exploring the natural history of the Indian subcontinent, first transmitted in the UK on BBC Two in 1997. The production team covered the breadth and depth of India, from the Himalayan mountains in the north to the reef-fringed islands of the Indian Ocean, to capture footage of the country's wild places and charismatic wildlife. Land of the Tiger was co-produced by the BBC Natural History Unit and the WNET/13 network. It was produced by Mike Birkhead and presented by leading Indian naturalist Valmik Thapar. The series is characterised by scenes of Thapar riding on an elephant in locations across the country. The series forms part of the Natural History Unit's Continents strand. It was preceded by Spirits of the Jaguar in 1996 and followed three years later by Andes to Amazon.

Night Fever was a karaoke style show airing in the United Kingdom on Channel 5 from 5 April 1997 to 30 March 2002. It was hosted by Suggs and in the early series, he was helped by 'The Big Guy in the Sky' - a disembodied voice giving the scores, and later by 'Wolfie' - John Ireland dressed as Mozart. Later series were co-hosted by Will Mellor and Sarah Cawood replaced later by Kieron Elliott and Danielle Nicholls. The programme often had themed shows such as Valentine's Day. Also, Suggs was helped by Pop Monkey who supposedly gave Suggs the choices of songs.
