Ghar Jamai

Ghar Jamai revolves around a North Indian father-in-law (Satish Shah) and his South Indian son-in-law (R Madhavan). Their continuous bickering and trying to take each other down is the premise of the show. A Punjabi father-in-law, Mr Mehra, who never left a chance to trouble his Malayali live-in son-in-law, Subramaniam Namboodiripad AKA Subbu. However, quick-witted Subbu always managed to foil Mehra's plans. The duo was always at loggerheads, and their chemistry was the USP of the show. While the father-in-law and the son-in-law loved to hate each other, Chandni (Mandira Bedi) used to get caught in the crossfire. In the show Satish Shah's Mr Mehra and Madhavan's Subbu are like Tom and Jerry, always trying to get the best of each other. Ghar Jamai came to an end when Madhavan decided to quit the show after Mani Ratnam offered him Alaipayuthey. He gained instant recognition with the Tamil film and went on to deliver many hits down South.

Bairi Piya is an Indian soap opera. Bairi Piya is an atypical love story painted across a canvas portraying the predicament of destitute farmers & their families. The initial episodes accentuated the stark reality that morality was a luxury many families couldn’t afford. Though the series started with the intent of highlighting the problems faced by the poor peasants of Vidarbha region of Eastern Maharashtra, that track was soon relegated to the backburner after receiving much criticism, despite revealing the true miserable conditions of poor peasants. The Women Rights Commission even pleaded for the show to be discontinued on the grounds that the practice of taking young girls to fulfil landlords' needs was not admissible for open public viewing.

Malgudi Days

Malgudi Days is an Indian television series based on the works of R.K. Narayan. The series was directed by Kannada actor and director, Shankar Nag and Carnatic musician L. Vaidyanathan composed the score. R. K Narayan's brother and acclaimed cartoonist R. K. Laxman was the sketch artist. The series was made in 1986 by film producer T. S. Narasimhan with Anant Nag as the lead actor. Thirty-nine episodes of Malgudi Days were telecast on Doordarshan over three seasons, starting in 1986. The first season was simultaneously made in English and in Hindi. Subsequent seasons were made in Hindi, and have been dubbed into other languages. It was re-telecast on Doordarshan and later on Sony Entertainment Television, and Maa Television in Telugu. This television series was shot entirely near Agumbe in Shimoga District, Karnataka. In 2004, the project was revived with film-maker Kavitha Lankesh replacing Shankar Nag as director. The new series of fifteen episodes was telecast from April 26, 2006 on Doordarshan.
