D.C. Follies

D.C. Follies is a syndicated sitcom which aired from 1987–1989 and was set in a Washington, D.C. bar, where bartender Fred Willard would welcome puppet caricatures of that day's politicians and celebrities. The humor tended to be on the satirical side, often taking potshots at politicians and the political process. Although Willard was the only live actor appearing regularly, each episode brought a celebrity guest into the bar, such as Martin Mull, Robin Leach, Bob Uecker, and Betty White. In one episode, Robert Englund showed up as his Freddie Kruger character, and in a special Christmas episode an un-billed actor played Santa Claus. Another episode had Mike Tyson confront his own puppet character. The show was believed to be inspired by the British series Spitting Image. It was syndicated in many markets, although it often aired at odd hours, making it difficult for the show to build a following. It was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft.

Hiroshi, Satoru, Susumu, Takeo, and Yasuko are five unique children who have different talents, such as being skilled at computers, being an expert at throwing stars, and excelling in studies and sports. The leader of this group, Hiroshi, creates a fictional character, the phantom Matenrou on his computer. When the five children shoot a video about this phantom and play it in their school, a small problem emerges. That evening, when Hiroshi finds that his precious computer is gone, Matenro, who is real appears before him and his friends said “If you want your computer back, accept my challenge,” Accepting the challenge, the children decides to form their own detective squad, “Hard Gumi" to catch Matenro.

Hardwicke House

Hardwicke House is a 1987 British sitcom produced by Central Independent Television for ITV. Seven spisodes were made, but the series was so poorly received that only the first two were transmitted. In the large comprehensive school Hardwicke House, the staff of which are as dysfunctional as the pupils. One teacher is a multiple murderer while the deputy headmaster lusts after male pupils. Nishimaru Nao (Saito Yuki) lives temporarily at the home of Hoshino (Hayashi Ryuzo), a university professor who is an old acquaintance of her mother (Aki Yoko) after the dormitory she was living in burns down and is being rebuilt. Bakiza and Zaghloul

The series tells the story of Bakiza, who was surprised after the death of her rich elderly husband - Ashmawi - with Maji, his daughter, Zaghloul, who was raised in poverty away from her rich father. Down and Out in Beverly Hills is a 30 minute TV series based on the 1986 movie of the same name. It aired from July 25, 1987 to September 12, 1987 on on the fledging Fox network. It has the distinction of being the first ever show to be cancelled by Fox; only 13 episodes were produced. The cast included Hector Elizondo as Dave Whiteman, Anita Morris as Barbara Whiteman, Eileen Seeley as Jenny Whiteman, April Ortiz as Carmen the Maid, and Tim Thomerson as Jerry Baskin. Evan Richards was the only cast member of the film to reprise his role for TV.

The Slap Maxwell Story

The Slap Maxwell Story is a situation comedy broadcast in the United States by ABC as part of its 1987-88 lineup. It stars Dabney Coleman as "Slap" Maxwell, an egocentric sportswriter for a newspaper called The Ledger, somewhere in the American Southwest. The Ledger was a very old-fashioned newspaper -- Slap still composed his column, "Slap Shots," on a typewriter -- and Slap was a very old-fashioned guy. Despite the newly litigious environment of journalism, Slap insisted on filling his column with rumor and innuendo, drawing lawsuits and Slap's frequent termination, to be followed by a groveling apology and his rehiring. He had an on-again, off-again relationship with girlfriend Judy, one of the paper's secretaries, due primarily to his off-putting personality. Annie was Slap's ex-wife, who nonetheless retained a soft spot for him. A recurring event throughout the series' run is that at some point in each episode, someone would hit Slap, with a nun even doing the honors in one episode. The show was created by Jay Tarses, who in 1983 was co-creator of Buffalo Bill, an NBC sitcom in which Coleman starred as a similarly off-putting character, the host of a TV talk show.

The Wacky Wife

The novelist and columnist Jin Yinzhu (played by Cheng Yuling) is full of fantasy, sensitive and suspicious. After Zhu's parents passed away, they left behind a house and a small amount of property, so they can live comfortably and allow their boyfriend to study abroad. Dick Spanner, P.I. is a 1986 British stop-motion animated comedy series which parodied Chandleresque detective shows. The title character and main protagonist was Dick Spanner, voiced by Shane Rimmer, a robotic private detective who works cases in a futuristic urban setting. The show made frequent use of puns and visual gags. The series consisted of 22 six-minute episodes, covering two story arcs of equal length: "The Case Of The Human Cannonball" and "The Case Of The Maltese Parrot". The programme was originally broadcast in the United Kingdom as a segment of the Sunday morning show Network 7 on Channel 4, and was later repeated on the same channel in a late night spot. Produced by Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson, the series was created and written by Terry Adlam, who had previously worked on effects for Anderson's Terrahawks. It was also the basis for the Anderson-created Tennants Pilsner advertising campaign using the Lou Tennant character.
