The 2006-2007 season of Viva Radio 2 debuted on October 8, 2006, with a special prime-time episode airing simultaneously on Radio 2 and Rai Uno. The special guest was Lelio Luttazzi, returning to television after many years, who dueted with Fiorello in "Chiedimi Tutto." Given its considerable success, the television experiment was repeated on November 19, 2006, with special guest Mike Bongiorno, achieving ratings peaks of 36%.

Mega Disasters is an American documentary television series that originally aired from May 23, 2006 to July 2008 on The History Channel. Produced by Creative Differences, the program explores potential catastrophic threats to individual cities, countries, and the entire globe. The two "mega-disasters" of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 inspired the series and provided a reference point for many of the episodes. Excepting only two shows devoted to man-made disasters, the threats explored can be divided into three general categories: meteorological, geological, and cosmic hazards.

The Conspiracy Files is a British documentary television series broadcast on BBC Two, investigating various modern day conspiracy theories. So far in two series and 6 programmes, the show has investigated the theories surrounding the September 11 attacks, the Pan Am Flight 103 bomb, the Oklahoma City bombing, the 7 July 2005 London bombings and the deaths of David Kelly and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Thames Valley Tonight was a regional news programme broadcast to part of the ITV Network in the Thames Valley area of southern England. The Thames Valley news region was launched on Monday 4 December 2006 and ceased to exist on 8 February 2009. Like all regional news programmes on ITV in England and Wales and ITV Channel Television, it used the generic ITV font and idents.

GMTV News was the brand name for the regional news service in the south coast of England and the Thames Valley, from 5 December 2006 until 6 February 2009. The change in branding was brought about due to the launch of ITV's Thames Valley news region on 4 December 2006, which, although based at Meridian's studios, consisted of the south-east of the Central franchise area as well as the north of the Meridian area. For this reason it was unlike the GMTV Northern Ireland and GMTV Scotland services, as it was produced by an ITV regional franchise-holder, rather than an independent company. As GMTV at the time only paid for one regional news service per official franchisee, the regional GMTV News-branded service was a replacement for the Meridian News and Thames Valley Today programmes. In February 2009, the two programmes were merged into one Meridian News/Tonight programme, and the GMTV News brand was dropped.
