The Immortality of the Crab

"The Immortality of the crab" is an experimental animated short film shot on super 8 film, made with in-camera editing and no post production. In this movie, the synaesthetic research between sound and image is accomplished by connecting the animations, made on 1125 cardboard frames, with an original soundtrack produced using only sounds sampled by handling pieces of cardboard. The title refers to the time spent between the birth of the embryonal idea and the production of the short. "The Immortality of the crab" is a south american expression, almost no longer used, which indicates the act of daydreaming. This film symbolizes the director's release from the spectre of procrastination, a condition he sistematically faced when daydreaming about possible ways to give shape to his idea.

Pierre Soulages / Michel Lorblanchet: Moments d’origine

An interview between the painter Pierre Soulages and the prehistorian Michel Lorblanchet about cave art and the origins of art. Pierre Soulages and Michel Lorblanchet explored the most important sites of prehistoric art together. On this day in 1996, they met in the Cougnac cave (Lot region) to admire some of its wonders. Jean-Luc Bouvret's film presents the exchange of powerful and unique perspectives on the first "artists" of humankind. During the visit, a profound complementarity of perceptions emerges between the painter and the prehistorian. Where one tries to analyze and understand, the other strives to "perceive/see."

Never Again - Amerikas Jugend gegen den Waffenwahn

Newtown, Orlando, Las Vegas—each represents a mass murder in the US, with at least 28 lives lost, using legally acquired weapons. These tragedies seem to occur more frequently, with politicians seemingly inactive. This changed on Valentine’s Day 2018, when a shooting at MSD High School in Parkland, Florida, killed 14 students and three faculty members. In response, young people organised the largest gun violence protests since the Vietnam War, demanding stricter gun laws and a ban on AR-15 rifles. Director Sebastian Bellwinkel documented this movement. While mass shootings are a significant issue, they account for only 1% of the 30,000 gun-related deaths annually. Some states have altered gun laws due to the protests, but the conservative Trump administration’s stance on making firearms harder to access remains unclear.

Wunderkammer: World of Wonder

What are wonders and what does it mean to collect them? The wunderkammer – also known as cabinets of wonder or cabinet de curiosités in French – emerged among sovereigns and elite collectors in the 16th century. There are extraordinary rooms all over the world: those of the past, the Renaissance cabinets that became, during the course of the 18th century, some of today’s major museums, and those of the present, whose contents come from the most prestigious galleries to be displayed in amazing villas and castles. Eccentric and priceless oddities, private collections, still exist.

Meine Welt ist die Musik

Christian Bruhn has virtually set the Federal Republic of Germany to music. He is one of the most successful German composers and music producers in the pop industry. Bruhn's music, on the other hand, is well known: whether it's pop songs like "Marmor Stein und Eisen bricht," theme tunes for "Heidi," "Timm Thaler," and "Captain Future," or advertising jingles from Maggi to Milka: Christian Bruhn has written more than 2,500 compositions. This documentary is the infectiously upbeat portrait of a man who has accompanied and touched people across generations with his music since the early 1960s.
