Another psychodrama, this time revolving around an SM club.

A letter with no receiver, connected two lonely souls from different ages and different countries. 9 years old Kageyama Kota from Japan wrote a letter to “Dear Mr. X” in school writing class, which was sent out by his mischievous classmates. To his surprise, “Dear Mr. X” wrote back.

For Hee-chul, a deliveryman, his future is unclear. His father, who comes to see him, is a violent alcoholic, and it is his grandmother who cooks for him. One day, Yeon-ju, a college student in a similar situation to Hee-chul, asks him to play the lead role in one of her short films. Hee-chul dreams and hopes for the possibility of finding a new relationship through film. But reality belies his dreams. His grandmother, who is tired of the grim reality of life, leaves a note saying that she can no longer live with him and moves out of his house to begin a brand new life. And soon after, his father gets involved in bad financial dealings and becomes a wanted man. Hee-chul realizes that he cannot rely on his family or lover and turns to the faint hope he holds for film-making.

Rock, the director of a TV program about the supernatural, firmly believes in ghosts. He desperately wants to meet a real one, but little does he realise the consequences this will bring. Desperate to increase the viewership of his show, Rock meets Tincy, who is actually a female ghost. Together they develop a new program called Life or Death which becomes a big success. But soon Rock uncovers the conspiracy behind Tincy's death, and is framed for her murder. With his only possible saviour stuck in a performance, Rock only has one hour left to save his life.

Recently appointed dean at a film school, Kimuro Hajime develops a special concern for one of his students, Daisuke. The brash, headstrong young man is fixated on with the Second World War. He feels a sense of frustration at the irrational sacrifice of young people's lives during the war six decades earlier. Daisuke finds that he can vent his frustrations to Kimuro, who experienced the war firsthand. Kimuro's wife, Emiko, is also troubled by memories of the war. She lost a loved one in the war and has never gotten over it. And Kimuro himself also has something from the past that he has yet to face. He believes that the burden of his unresolved past will eventually be the death of him. When Daisuke's neurosis causes him to quit school, life changes for all three of them.

Father documents the tumultuous relationship between a widowed father, Ma Lisheng, and his school-age son, Ma Che. Though he works as a low-level party functionary during the day, he finds his greatest challenges in the raising of a son on his own. Alternating between trying to bond with his son (even getting drunk with him), and verbally accosting him, Ma is at a loss. One day the son decides that the best way for his father to stop harassing him, will be to find him a new wife, which he finds in the form of the mother of a school friend, Qing Huaiyuan.

A father takes his son to observe an empty field, and then to visit a neighbour, who is soon visited by other reticent characters, including a man who is a little violent, and another next-door neighbour who has fallen ill.

The powerful organization Fifth-Generation Tōdō-gumi, based in Osaka’s Minami district, is led by Wakagashira Ōtani (Ryu Daisuke), under whom Yuji Mikasa (Musashi Ken) walks the path of the old-school yakuza code. Devoted to daily sword training and upholding traditional values, Mikasa’s peaceful days take a sharp turn when he commits a murder to cover for his younger protégé. The situation spirals out of control. As the yakuza world grows more entangled with politics, the organization’s boss, Myojin, announces his retirement. Seizing the opportunity, the cunning Serizawa (Kawano Taro) plots to oust Ōtani by any means necessary. Worse still, Mikasa’s own “civilian killing” ends up pushing his respected boss into a corner...

A mentally unstable young woman named Yoshie implores a gifted plastic surgeon (Yukiko Okamoto) to make her beautiful in this disturbing Japanese psychodrama directed by Katsuya Matsumura. Although the operation is successful, Yoshie becomes even more preoccupied with beauty -- and soon draws the doctor into a horrifying world of emotional agony and masochism. The film's supporting cast includes Asuka Kurosawa, Kota Kusano and Miki Asakura.

Chen Chuan (Francis Ng) is a simple man who seems to be cursed with bad luck all the time. In an isolated village in the Kazakhstan mountains, Erken, a boy of 12, lives with his mother, a beautiful and alluring single woman. One night, when the mother is visited by a hunter, Erken steals the latters horse and his gun to hold up a shop. Sought by the police, he is found by the hunter who gives him a choice: to go to prison or to go and live with him in the mountains. Thus begins a voyage of initiation, in the course of which the hunter tries to pass on his taste for and understanding of life.

Shin is a Japanese university student living a boring and meaningless life. One day, he spots a book titled Dangerous Ways to Walk the World, in which he finds a page written about hazards in New-York. Eager to get out, he jets off to New-York to find this inspiration.

The background music, which is hallucinatory, dreamlike and even uncoordinated, reflects the conflicts between ideals and reality. The young lovers, despite the threat of death, continue with their discussion of ideal, faith and anticipation.

After her grandmother's passing, Natsumi, a third-year high school student, moves to Tokyo to live with her mother Haruka, who works as a stripper in Asakusa. Having been separated from her mother since elementary school, Natsumi initially finds it difficult to connect and often clashes with her. However, as time goes on, she begins to understand and accept her mother's unconventional lifestyle."

The movie is absurd, and a thoroughly original take on the morale in Japanese society. The images are beautiful, and the people are as cold as the snow that surrounds them. The take on Melville's "Samoraï" from -67 is obvious, but Kobayashi turns the image around and portrays the killer as the weakest person in the movie - haunted by his demanding wife and the moaning contractor, who is one of the most mysterious characters ever portrayed in a movie.

Yang Yang's mother marries her track coach, who then becomes Yang Yang's stepfather, with his daughter Xiao-Ru becoming Yang Yang's stepsister. The two girls seem close, but their relationship possesses a hidden and ultimately damaging jealousy. Xiao-Ru’s boyfriend Shawn has a desire for Yang Yang and she bears some attraction in return.

A shameful period in Taiwanese history provides the backdrop for this emotional drama from writer and director Yonfan (aka Yang Fan). Hung Kuen vs Wing Chun was originally called Hung Kuen marries Wing Chun and I think it was made for television. It was more like a light romantic comedy mixed with the movie "Grumpy Old Men," in China. I liked it. It was fun to watch Gordon Liu play this character. It was cheesy, but fun anyway.
