The Courageous Sisters

Since 1995, the TransAsia Sisters Association has been a pioneering force in supporting immigrant women in Taiwan, especially marriage migrants. What began as a small literacy class has grown into a vibrant community that empowers women to organise, speak out, and advocate for their rights. The film explores the struggles of belonging, the strength of sisterhood, and the quiet power of everyday resistance. From street protests to storytelling through food and culture, the Sisters continue to reshape the narrative of migration—one voice at a time.

Noah, Noah

Integrating home movies shot over six years of traveling with friends and lovers with postcards and flyers collected during past travels, Wu Chun-Hui takes us on a journey without end, a voyage searching for the origin of memory and infinite desire. Noah, Noah deals with relationships, distance, and memories, and turns the needs and desires that evolve from them into a cinematic experience. Trains departing, back roads roamed, navigating by water or air. It’s also about distance in filming, a distance from one image to another film roll, from one frame to another perforation, the distance from the real to the faded memory.

She heard nothing in Matsu. She heard everything.

“Have we ever been to Matsu?” Does this question trigger some mental images, such as flashing postcards inside our mind, or memories of shared photographs through social media? How do we build a landscape of an island? By modifying the geography or by spreading its visual representations? Let’s replace the first inquiry with another one: “Have we ever listened to Matsu?”What would we listen to first? Who would we listen to? What do people in Matsu listen to? As islanders, do they listen to the sounds of the sea or to the sounds of the neighboring country? Is there any document we can listen to about Matsu? Just like images and the internet conspired to transform our vision and memory, may recorded sounds could alter our listening, and therefore our perception of these islands?

She heard nothing in Matsu. She heard everything.

Chiayi's Taste of Time

Braised Delicacies is more than a flavor—it is a legacy shaped by three generations. Master Lin Shun-Cheng upholds traditional craftsmanship passed down from his father, while his apprentice Lai Yun-Chun brings innovation, and Lin's son works to meet his father's high standards. Though different in outlook, all three of them share deep respect for cooking. The film captures how craftsmanship and love quietly endure in this 80-year-old Chiayi establishment of food flavors.

Echo

Built in 1969, this former staff quarters of the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation bears witness to Chiayi's postwar housing development and urban memory. Today, its walls are cracked, concrete eroded, timber decayed, tiles shattered, and the entrance hall is entirely gone. Yet traces of past daily life still linger. Drawing on experimental methods, the film seeks to construct a visually dislocated narrative in which past and present coexist out of sync, offering an alternative perspective on the act of gazing.

Film; about Deviation

One day after watching a film festival movie, I (the author) said to Chin-Chieh: "If there's nothing serious, I would like to watch another movie." That's when I realized I was classifying "go home" as a big event. February 23, 2023, I walked home on that day. On the way home, I noticed that it became quite ceremonial. The night scenes along the road, the memories of traveling with family, and the "failed" Super 8 images produced at home, all turned into the scenery of memories. At the same time, I also realize that when I am in the space of my home, I impose constraints on myself.

The Route

In 1995 five hundred dock workers in Liverpool were fired for refusing to cross a picket line, sparking the Dockers' dispute of the 1990s. In protest, when the Neptune Jade – a Mersey-loaded ship – set sail from England dock workers across the globe refused to allow the ship to dock and unload its cargo – first at Oakland CA., then Vancouver, Canada and then Yokahoma and Kobe, Japan. The ship eventually sailed to Port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan where it was disbanded and sold. Neptune Jade stands as a significant event in the dock workers struggle and of their international solidarity. In The Route, Chen re-presents history by interspersing archive film footage with new footage of a picket line staged by Dockers at Port of Kaohsiung. A symbolic connection between workers in Liverpool and Taiwan, the artist's home, is created, echoing the Dockers' phrase 'The world is our picket line'.
