Bugs and Beasts Before the Law explores the history and legacy of the “animal trials” that took place in medieval Europe, in which animals—and other non-humans, such as insects and inanimate objects— were put on trial for various crimes and offences, ranging from trespassing and thievery, to assault and murder. This history of colonial law-making forged political and sometimes profane relation- ships between humans and animals. Bambitchell’s essayistic film reimagines common perceptions of legal history and, in doing so, produces a world where past and present, fiction and non-fiction, human and animal fuse.

In the late 1990s, Moncton's Acadian community was forever marked when death struck an high school. In a sweet impressionist film, Samara returns to the city she fled as a teenager to immerse herself in memories that are still buried there, in various places and in dusty boxes containing diaries, photos and VHS tapes. 1999 is not a ghost story, although it is populated by ghosts. The snow-covered streets, corridors and locker rooms of the school are intact, as in a dream, but the absence left by the wave of teenage suicides still resonates with unanswered questions, trauma and regret. Samara meets inspiring people who carry with them great pain and who, 16 years later, can finally comfort each other by breaking a long silence. In the end, the film interweaves different voices and gives rise to a collective reflection on the internalization of mourning and the need to learn to affirm one's desire to survive.

Body Language Decoded takes the viewer deep inside the intriguing world of non-verbal communication. To the trained observer, more is revealed by studying the way people move than by listening to what people actually say.

This film is based on one year in the filmmaker's fractured life. Rotoscoped figures are layered with stills and live video footage to create an open narrative based on events in his life that took place in 1975. He was 13 and this was a pivotal year for him in many ways. He discovered the magic of animation and was hooked. He made his first animated film with his best friend, they locked themselves away for the whole summer to complete it. 1975 was also the year that he had his first sexual experience, with said best friend. It was a time of great excitement, confusion, fear and withdrawal.

After Mars” is a 42 minute partly animated documentary that reflects upon on the Second World War, weaving personal accounts from veterans, civilians, and war letters— revealing the experiences, effects and often their traumas. It includes interviews from tank crewman that served with Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), Bomber Command, and civilian experiences – including that of a German-Canadian woman, Ute Dilger who witnessed the war as a young girl in Nazi Germany. The title comes from a poem written during the war by Frances M. Miller, a Canadian Field Ambulance nurse. The war letters were written by a RCAF crewman, Stewart Bishop who took part in bombing runs over Germany. All of the five veterans featured in the film including Bud McLean, Val Rimer, Father Robert Greene, Bob o’Connor and John Clarke have sadly passed on due to their age but the filmmaker is grateful to have been able to capture and share some of their stories with a larger audience.
