Eurodollars

Bliss's footage of New York includes public art in the Financial District, views from the "Freedom Tower" on the site of the World Trade Center, the sun setting over the Hudson River looking towards New Jersey, and Zuccotti Park (the centre of the Occupy Wall Street protests in 2011). Two channels of texts, written by Bliss and James Duesterberg, appear like a chat conversation but have an unnervingly robotic quality, not quite responding to the preceding message and leaning heavily on stock phrases. The text is drawn from language circulating in popular culture such as Barack Obama's speeches, quotations from the film Wall Street, and reports of Gisele Bündchen's request to be paid in euros due to the weakening dollar.

The Big Lie II: Starmer and the Genocide

The Big Lie II: Starmer and the Genocide' explores the impact of the Gaza conflict on British politics. It examines what lies behind the pro-Israel stance of the Labour Party under leader Keir Starmer, and documents the demonstrations, protests and direct actions which aim to end the complicity of the British establishment in genocide, and join the worldwide movement for peace and justice. The reaction to what’s happening in Palestine has been unparalleled in this country and throughout the world— the huge marches, protests, and direct actions have been massive. But at the same time, they have been outrageously minimised and misrepresented in the mainstream media.

Sally!

Sally Gearhart was a charismatic radical lesbian activist, author, and academic who spearheaded the 1970s and 80s lesbian feminist movement yet has been largely forgotten. But the film SALLY is not just a straightforward biography of this “hidden figure” deserving more recognition. It also shows the symbiotic relationship between spokeswomen like Sally and movements for social change, which are necessarily collective. And it highlights Sally’s captivating iconoclasm and contradictions: SALLY is both a wild lesbian safari and a timely and deeply moving meditation on the tensions inherent in revolutionary movements: ideological principles versus human realities, separatism versus mainstreaming, and throwing down the gauntlet versus reaching across the aisle. Ultimately, Sally and compatriots’ key contributions can help guide our current, urgent battles for social justice.

"Get the Jew": The Crown Heights Riot Revisited (WSJ Opinion Documentary)

"This 20 minute documentary sheds light on the worst antisemitic riot in American history, which occurred in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, in 1991. Triggered by a Hasidic man running a red light and accidentally hitting and killing a young black child, the riot led to attacks on Jews. Stores and police cars were burned and a Hasidic man was killed. David Dinkins, New York’s mayor at the time, allowed the riot to go on for three full days, while the media downplayed the antisemitism at the heart of the violence. The film’s interviews include Rev. Al Sharpton and then-Deputy Police Chief Ray Kelly as well as WSJ Opinion writer Elliot Kaufman. The current wave of antisemitism makes these events newly relevant and worthy of reconsideration" (The Wall Street Journal).
