The film aims to interrogate the increasingly controversial role of Artificial Intelligence by visualising a statement from a bot about its experience on a Valentine's Day in the near future.

The filming began in 2001 and lasted for ten years, recording the story of the dragon boat in Lianxi Village on Xiaoguwei Island in the Pearl River Delta region of southern China. Lianxi Village, which is only a dozen kilometers away from Guangzhou City, still maintained a fairly traditional lifestyle and customs in 2001. The villagers are mainly composed of farmers and fishermen. They are keen on dragon boating. The traditional Dragon Boat Festival dragon boat race is the village once a year. Event. With the construction of Guangzhou University Town in 2003, the villagers of Lianxi Village had to be relocated and resettled. Today, the names of Xiaoguwei Island and Lianxi Village have disappeared from the map. The criss-cross highways and subways connect the island and the city.

Xiao An and Mao Cai live in the same dormitory and meet one another because of their accidentally swapped bedsheets. They grow closer by meeting frequently, to the point that Mao Cai asks Xiao An to be his little brother. Although what Xiao An feels is way more than brotherly love, he accepts Mao Cai's request. While both of them are trying to figure out their feelings, Lao Si (Xiao An's rommate) is getting into the picture too, making everything even more complicated.

Chinese funerals require much preparation: a three-day wake and various rituals precede the cremation. In the opening shots of this magical realist film, the widow returns home drained and starts tidying up the house, only to encounter her deceased husband casually sauntering down the stairs. She soon readopts a familiar routine: dressing him warmly, measuring his blood pressure and bickering with him. This absurd premise soon develops when visitors from the afterlife are expected and the daughter starts getting involved. As she seeks to solve the impossible situation, grandson Jiajia seems to be the only one unquestioningly embracing grandad's return. But there are times where she leaves her routine for a second to wonder about the future, especially regarding whether her grandson would be willing or not to take care of the restaurant, following the family tradition. Circa late 1930s, Boat Quay, Singapore. A young boy receives an old violin as a gift out of kindness from a foreign trader. From then on, it becomes a treasured possession as he teaches himself to play the instrument over several years, until it was lost during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore. After the war, the violin was found by a man working for the British Military Administration and given to his young daughter. The girl learns to play it and becomes a renowned violinist over the decades. She eventually passes the instrument on to her grandson, an accomplished violinist himself, who restores it and performs in a concert by the Singapore River, where the violin started its unexpected journey nearly 80 years ago.
