Bertha is a widow and lives alone on an isolated farm in the mountains of Santa Catarina. Beginning to face difficulties in keeping the property running, Bertha is under pressure from her son who wants her to move in with him in an upscale neighborhood of Florianópolis. Upon learning of the arrival of a group of Haitians in Santa Catarina, Bertha decides to bring the Haitian Bastide to work and live with her, fueling her son's hostility. The coexistence transforms the working relationship between Bertha and Bastide into a sincere friendship between two people from different cultures who share common ideas and feelings.

Iracema

A girl from the countryside goes to the city of Belém to take part in the Círio de Nazaré celebrations. Led to prostitution, she wishes to move to the wealthiest Southeast region of Brazil. In a dance club, she meets a truck driver that transports wood. Dreaming with the big city, she asks for a ride, and the two begin a journey through the Trans-Amazon road. In tension with the Brazilian military authorities of the time, the film registers several aspects of the Amazon social tragedy – forest fires, slave work and child prostitution. Awarded in several international festivals, the film was forbidden by the Brazilian censorship. It was only released years later, winning the Brasília Film Festival in 1981.

Upon arriving at the building where he works, Pedro finds the janitor, Hilário Garcia, dead inside one of the elevators. Inspector Canovas, in charge of the case, discovered that Hilário was Portuguese, widowed, with an only child living in the United States. Several suspicious people are detained and interrogated and, during the investigation, a guard and a girl are killed. With the help of the North American police, Inspector Canovas discovers that Hilário's son, Antônio and his wife Vanda, had already returned to Brazil. The two are located in São Paulo and detained for investigation. At the police, Antônio confesses to Carlos, his brother-in-law, that he was responsible for his father's death. Based on these statements, Canovas concludes that the caretaker was murdered because he discovered that his son and brother-in-law made a living from various suspicious businesses and were acting outside the law.

His career spans over five decades, and he has worked with iconic Brazilian filmmakers Glauber Rocha, Cacá Diegues and Walter Lima Jr. He was a prominent figurehead and outspoken activist during the Brazilian dictatorship, a period of unrest in Brazilian cinema. "Pitanga" deep dives into the world of Antônio and the history of Brazil. The documentary was directed by his daughter Camila Pitanga, one of widely recognised faces in Brazilian television and cinema right now. The film is also a poem, and a tender ode to fatherhood.
