Bone and Flesh Cogitation

A film about the film maker’s own pregnancy and birthing experience.”We celebrate the ability to give birth, but if this is so, shouldn’t we regard all life as blessed? Am I blessed?” The filmmaker twists the question of expression by taking the point of view of the camera and objectifying herself through ultrasonic images of the baby right before birth, and talk with family. Shooting these images day by day is the process by which the film maker grapples with the question of her own existence. It is, in fact, an attempt to witness her own birth.

Place Where Dance Was Born

"In Japan, they say there are several tortures, such as a blood pond, a needle mountain, and a place with burning fire in hell. I picked one of these, a blood pond, to create my image of animation. There is a heaven and hell in everyone’s mind and I think that people dance because we feel heaven and hell inside ourselves. I made many of the images using a kids’ graphic computer called “My First Sony,” which was very easy to use, and I edited these graphics into animation by using a Sony Handicam V-88 in its animation function." - Tamami Asada

Summer Cityに寄らず

After spending his company's money, Ichita dreams of a "treasure hunt". One day, Ichita receives a small gun. One day, Ichita receives a small pistol in the mail, and the two set off on a random journey in a stolen car. On the way, they pick up a couple, a blonde woman and a quiet motorcyclist, who have no idea where they are going or why. These two are also living their own lives, far from reality. The car with the four people in it goes on a long way... The dialogue is casual but stylish. The light oldies pop music is in the background. It's a cool road movie with an unrealistic setting and a mood that mixes speed and weariness. The film was shot on location in Hokkaido, where the road is straight and endless. The filming in the vast landscape brings the characters into sharp focus. The journey of these outlaws, who can only live halfway, is shown in a dashing, unconventional and freestyle.

Lost Love

A young man sees something by the river. It's a shot of the girl he loves with another man. The young man has been dumped! He bites his lip and remembers those glorious days of love. And now, in order to express his anger, his frustration, his sadness and his regret, he comes up behind them... The word for "lost love" is "persistent". The story is about the youthfulness and innocence of a man who has lost his persistence. The frustration of youthful immaturity. The uncool and shameful part of the male sex, and the love for it. The melancholy and unhurried narrative suddenly comes to an unexpected end, and the audience realises that this is a very short and hilarious coming-of-age graffiti.

Biomimetic

Tadpoles flock to the entrance of a wall socket as if they are in a race to be the first. One of them eventually reaches the nucleus inside and begins to divide. The rapidly expanding nucleus soon takes on the shape of a baby. Today, the electronic society is expanding at a furious pace. It is the energy that is essential for the development of human society, but what will happen to the relationship between the two when they continue their rapid expansion? Plastic cards and IC chips are used symbolically to create realistic and detailed human beings. This is a grotesquely powerful image of the Metamorphosis, created with great imagination and formative power. A clay animation with a dry message condensed into four minutes.

My Mother Makes Dumplings

A unique documentary that boldly and truthfully expresses the incident in the Yabe family on New Year's Day 1988! With an up-tempo rhythm, something strange happened in the kitchen of the Yabe family. It was the unthinkable: the production of 300 dumplings. My mother wrapped up a heap of ingredients in a tub-like bowl with unbelievable speed, and using two frying pans, she baked the dumplings, one after the other, without mercy. In three minutes, the film is as full of laughter and family love as the Yabe family's dumplings.

The protagonist, who relies on fortune-telling in order to become beautiful and is bossy with the same sex whom she identifies as less than her, confronts the audience with "the ugly part of you", in the form of a laugh, saying "ugly people are such creatures". The film is a radical stomping ground of the looks complex.
