Touché

A fencer, molded from childhood to chase after success, and devoted to the dream of reaching the top of the world. A father who serves as both her mentor, and her harshest critic. A legendary trainer, in a cutthroat competition. A rollercoaster ride, filled with thrilling ups and downs that even a screenwriter would hesitate to come up with. Touché is the larger-than-life story of fencing world champion Nathalie Moellhausen, a ten-year course featuring the participation in three Olympiads as a representative of two different countries, generous doses of drama on and off the field, and above all else a bright personality transcending the noble sport’s finite popularity by far.

Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande

In the racially turbulent UK of the early 70s, a group of black musicians came together in South London with a common love of rhythms and a message of peace. Cymande – with the dove as their symbol – combined jazz, funk, soul and Caribbean grooves to form a unique sound. Despite success in the USA they faced indifference in their native Britain, becoming disillusioned and disbanding. But the music lived on, as new generations of artists imbibed and reworked their pioneering sounds in fresh ways. From Soul II Soul to De La Soul, MC Solaar to The Fugees, the Dove had spread Cymande's message far and wide, prompting their return after forty years. This is their story.

Turning Point Up Close - A Year with Soldiers

The film focuses on three male and one female soldier. They represent the challenges that the German army is currently facing: the Bundeswehr has too few personnel, too little equipment and for many years was not prepared for the type of war that it must now prepare for in the future. The film reflects the dramatic change from the perspective of those who have to shoulder the task of "national and alliance defense" in a very concrete and personal way in their everyday lives, at their location, in their unit.

The Thousand and One Days of Hajj Edmond

A former communist leader and activist for Moroccan independence, Edmond Amran Elmaleh left behind a vast body of literary work that masterfully articulates personal and collective memory. This cinematic letter, addressed to Elmaleh by director Simone Bitton, weaves together excerpts from the writer’s texts, testimonies, and archival images, and the filmmaker’s own words to illustrate the memory of a captivating and erudite man haunted by the parallel tragedies of the departure of Jews from Morocco and the exodus of Palestinians uprooted from their land.

Sons of No-One

Starting from the discovery of a propaganda film from 1927, L’Estate Silana, made when King Victor Emmanuel III visited Calabria, the film Sons of No-one focuses on the unused fragments in the film, and digs into the edges of the shots pointing a finger at how history, and cinema, is staged. The texts, from the book Calabria grande e amara by Leonida Repaci, seek in these reels what propaganda excluded and deliberately kept in the side-lines. Sons of No-one is a short film made during a workshop conducted by Gaetano Crivaro and Margherita Pisano for The Memories Film Fest, organized by the Cineteca della Calabria Association.

Catching Predators

750,000 sexual predators are permanently connected worldwide, 71% of 12-year-olds use at least one social network, and 1 in 5 children have already received sexual proposals online. In the face of this scourge, a number of volunteers have decided to give up their time to fight online pedo-crime. Together, they have formed the association Les Enfants d'Argus. With offices in France, the French overseas departments and territories, and Belgium, the 30 or so volunteers work day in, day out towards the same goal: to flush out child criminals before they make victims.
