Ruralité : Une jeunesse oubliée

Molsheim in Alsace: a local mission welcomes young people from across the region. It is the "big" town upstream of the working-class valley of La Bûche, an isolated area that is suffering the full brunt of unemployment and the depopulation of its villages. Dorian, Tiffany, Sandra, and the others are between 17 and 20 years old. Without jobs or training, these young people struggle every day to break out of their inertia. Yet some of them have not left their rooms for over a year when they arrive at the local mission. By joining the Youth Guarantee program, they hope to find a structured environment that will help them face a world of work that they find difficult to understand.

Ciudad Lineal

Inspired by the urban utopia of Arturo Soria y Mata, who with his "Ciudad Lineal" theorized an idea of universal, a priori urban expansion, infinitely repeatable and adaptable to all conditions, the film takes the form of a choral portrait of a city in transformation. The material that constitutes it, drawn from the Superottimisti Regional Archive, is the private and amateur film production of nine families who live there and who, holding the camera inside and outside their homes, trace heterogeneous itineraries in space and time, pursuing the loves , desires and dramatic experiences of their lives.

La Vita Olistica

Gaining ideology from their last album Disco Volodar, the short film uses the core theme of space. The short film is filmed at Unit 3 Regents Trading Estate, the usual area for Sounds From The Other City. Using the philosophy of avante garde pioneer Maya Deren ‘one must at least begin with the body feeling’, the films opening is of the four piece standing atop of the hill in the Pendle countryside. This quickly melts into a warped reality and lands you into the POV of a camera and trapped in a liminal space where you see a band in session.

The mysteries of Mont La Pérouse

160 km southwest of Reunion Island, just a few dozen metres beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean, lies the peak of an underwater volcanic structure known as Mont La Pérouse. The base of this enigmatic geological formation lies 5000 meters below sea level, with a size comparable to that of Mont Blanc. Permanent currents and strong winds characterise this site in the open seas, culminating in complex diving conditions under which Laurent Ballesta, together with his Gombessa diving team and local researchers had to navigate in order to conduct the study in depth. Further techniques such as observation and photographic inventory, biological and geological sampling, and the use of cameras and sonars were employed in this challenging expedition.
