While the twelve strokes of midnight slowly sound in the night and the lights go out in the windows of old Montmartre, a devil is born in a puddle of rum, thrown by some drunkard. And to do his devilish job conscientiously, without wasting time. A cellar is nearby. The devil invites him to his gala evening. It raises the wind, swirls clouds of dust, and in a Sabbath atmosphere, the guests flock: puppets crumpled with party favors, waste and rejects of all kinds leave the trash cans and hurry towards the promised spectacle. Master Over Life and Death

Barbara is married to Georg Bertram, a professor of medicine who once saved her father's life. Things go awry for the couple when she gives birth to a mentally defective child. For Georg, coldly clinical, euthanizing the infant is the only way out. He is about to commit the irreparable when Barbara manages to interrupt his fatal act. By mutual agreement, husband and wife decide that Barbara will go to Saint-Guénolé in Brittany, where she and their son will be cared for by Louise Kerbrec, Georg's former nurse, in the hypothetical hope that the boy's condition will improve. What they do not know yet is that Barbara will meet there another doctor, Daniel Karentis, much more sympathetic than Georg and also much handsomer.

Once upon a time, there was a young prince who wanted to fulfill his greatest wish: to marry a princess! One night, there was a violent storm, and someone knocked on the castle gate. A princess stood before the king, who opened the door. She was soaked to the skin and did not look noble at all, but she insisted that she was a real princess. Not wanting to see her son unhappy again, the queen devised a plan. She prepared a bed for the young woman with mountains of mattresses and blankets, but placed a pea on the floor. In the morning, the princess wakes up feeling terribly bruised, having slept on something hard all night.

Robert Montfort, happily married to Solange, is his parents-in-law's pet aversion though. To them he is a punk, a good for nothing, a small-time, untalented poet! Robert, who is more gifted than what they think, manages, following a workmate's recommendation, to debut as an entertainer in a nightclub and -even better- to please the audience. Not daring tell the truth to Solange he starts leading a double life, being Robert Montfort in the daytime and Jean Rigobert at night. Of course his wife wonders what is going on and worries about his regular night outings. Only too happy, her parents incite her to have a divorce. Fortunately, all comes right in the end.
